Massa Tops Jerez Test

Posted on December 6th, 2006 by Oliver White in Testing

Felipe Massa has again topped the timing sheets, this time at the Jerez test which got underway earlier today. Luca Badoer - Ferrari’s long-time test driver - comfortably sat in second behind his team mate, and over half a second faster than Lewis Hamilton in the McLaren. The Ferrari drivers spent most of the day testing the engine on long runs, assessing its durability and reliability. Hamilton completed 79 laps and finished two tenths quicker than McLaren’s long-time test driver Pedro De La Rosa.

Toyota were present in Spain, and Franck Montagny managed to set the fifth quickest time of the day, just behind his counterpart at Honda, Christian Klien. Toyota also debutised Kohei Hirate in the second car, who ended up in 15th and almost two seconds shy of Massa’s benchmark. Super Aguri were impressive again with their interim car, and British driver Anthony Davidson set a lap time of 1m20.437s, less than a tenth away from Klien’s Honda.

Giancarlo Fisichella made an appearance at the circuit - his first time in the saddle since the Brazilian Grand Prix - and was down the table in 14th place, five behind his 2007 team mate Heikki Kovalainen.
