McLaren Continue With Appeal

Posted on October 23rd, 2007 by Oliver White

Ron Dennis - 2007 Italian Grand PrixDespite stating that he doesn’t want to win the world championship due to penalties imposed on other drivers, Lewis Hamilton’s team are pressing ahead with their appeal over the lack of punishment handed to Williams and BMW after their fuel was suggested to be outside the regulated temperature range. The stewards decided soon after the Brazilian Grand Prix that there wasn’t enough conclusive evidence to impose a penalty on both teams, and as such Kimi Raikkonen was declared the 2007 World Champion. However, should the result be changed as a consequence of McLaren’s appeal, then Hamilton could be promoted up the points order, robbing Raikkonen of his much deserved title and furthering the damage to Formula One. Posted on October 22nd, 2007 by Oliver White

Kimi Raikkonen - 2007 Brazilian Grand PrixThe possible scuppering of Kimi Raikkonen’s championship has been finalised in the Finn’s favour. Although Raikkonen magnificently won the Brazilian Grand Prix with a little help from his team mate Felipe Massa, the legality of the BMWs and Williams put the celebrations on hold. Their cars were scrutinised with fuel temperatures lower than the mandatory 10 degrees less than ambient temperatures. However, the stewards have announced that no penalties would be handed out, thus confirming Raikkonen as the 2007 Formula One World Champion. Continue Reading

BMW & Williams May Scupper Raikkonen’s Title Win

Posted on October 21st, 2007 by Oliver White

Kazuki Nakajima - 2007 Brazilian Grand PrixIn typical Formula One fashion, the title is not yet over. Despite winning the Brazilian Grand Prix a few hours ago, Kimi Raikkonen may not have won the title yet. The reason behind this lack of confirmation falls to the fuel temperature of both BMWs and both Williams, three of which cars finished ahead of Lewis Hamilton in the final positions in the Brazilian Grand Prix. Should Prodrive Be Allowed To Compete For Points?

Posted on October 5th, 2007 by Oliver White

Frank Williams and Patrick Head - 2007 Bahrain Grand PrixAside from all the other controversies of the 2007 season, one other debate is yet to be finalised, even though it was initiated long before the Australian Grand Prix last March. The matter concerns the use of customer chassis by teams, and centres around Scuderia Toro Rosso, who are essentially using Red Bull’s car, Super Aguri, who are essentially using the 2006 Honda currently, and Prodrive who intend to use McLaren chassis next year when they join Formula One. The FIA are going to be holding a meeting later this month to decide how to proceed. Continue Reading

Pitlanes, Spykers & Engines

Posted on September 28th, 2007 by Oliver White

Mark Webber - 2007 Japanese Grand PrixAfter unanimous agreement from the Formula One drivers, the FIA are to inspect the pitlane entrance at the Fuji Speedway this evening. According to the drivers, the fast left-right kink that confronts the drivers as the enter the lane from the circuit could prove disastrous if a driver made even the tiniest of errors. This concern about pitlanes follows disgruntlement from several drivers with Spa Francorchamps remodeled pitlane area. Although nobody crashed in the pits in Belgium, a lot of drivers voiced their concern, despite it falling on deaf ears. This time though, the FIA have said they will take a look. Continue Reading

Nick Heidfeld: A Certain Amount Of Respect

Posted on March 6th, 2007 by Oliver White

Nick Heidfeld - Testing Aerodynamic Efficiencies of a BeardI have a certain respect for Nick Heidfeld. To be perfectly honest, I don’t really know why, but never-the-less, that small amount of respect is there. He is no faster than any other driver, he is no more intelligent nor does he possess any more charisma or flamboyance than his fellow racers. But each race he turns up, generally keeps his head down and quietly goes about the business of thrashing a Formula One car around a circuit. In many respects, his attitude towards his work is much like my own, and maybe it is because of that I find a small smile creep across my face when the German driver does well.

F1 2007: Williams

Posted on March 5th, 2007 by Oliver White

Williams - 2007 LaunchWith Williams admitting the shame of 2006 in front of the world’s media at the FW29 launch in February, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the great British team were on a downward spiral and heading for the back of the grid, forever to run around with the Rossos and Spykers. It was a bad year for Williams, and with only a total of 11 points, the tally equaled that of the team’s first season in Formula One back in 1978. However, Williams were once a formidable force in Formula One, and one day they will be again. The signs of improvement have started to appear in winter testing, and the recent partnering with Toyota should be good for the Grove-based squad. So how will they fair in 2007? Let’s take a look at the team and see for ourselves. Continue Reading
