Belgium 2008: Amended Race Result

Posted on September 7th, 2008 by Oliver White

After the news that Lewis Hamilton has been handed a 25 second penalty for his battle with Kimi Raikkonen in the final stages of the Belgian Grand Prix, this obviously effects the final outcome of the race. The added 25 seconds puts Hamilton back to third, and promotes Felipe Massa and Nick Heidfeld up the order to first and second respectively. In terms of championships, Massa is now closer to Hamilton in the title fight (just 2 points separates them), and Raikkonen isn’t as far behind as he previously was. Continue Reading

Posted on September 7th, 2008 by Oliver White

They say Spa Francorchamps has it’s own little micro-climate, throwing up surprising weather conditions and playing havoc with the teams and drivers. And that is exactly what happened during the Belgian Grand Prix today, as incidents were plentiful in the build up to the final lap. On the track, it was Lewis Hamilton who took the win, followed by Massa and Heidfeld. Raikkonen retired with an accident in the wet weather and Heidfeld had an epic final lap to get onto the podium. Belgium 2008: Race Result

Posted on September 7th, 2008 by Oliver White

What a sensational race! Lewis Hamilton has won the Belgian Grand Prix after a lot of confusion towards the end - the rain started to fall and overtaking was plentiful. Although Hamilton took to the podium, the stewards are looking into a move between the McLaren driver and Kimi Raikkonen. Hamilton ran wide going through the final corner and skipped over the run-off. He allowed Raikkonen to re-take the lead before passing again later in the lap. For now, here’s the result, but I’ll update when a decision from the stewards is known. Continue Reading

Belgium 2008: Lewis Hamilton Takes Commanding Pole

Posted on September 6th, 2008 by Oliver White

Lewis Hamilton has taken pole position at the Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium, adding to his previous ten and setting himself up for a good race tomorrow. The session remained dry although the track was a little greasy to begin with. Lewis was pretty confident throughout and along with Heikki Kovalainen, they were enjoying the cool temperatures playing to the advantage of the McLaren MP4-23. Felipe Massa came close, but in the end the Brazilian had to settle for second. Continue Reading

Belgium 2008: The Grid

Posted on September 6th, 2008 by Oliver White

The McLarens line up on the Spa Francorchamps grid one directly in front of the other, as do the Ferraris of Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen. Lewis Hamilton claimed the pole position by some margin, while Heikki Kovalainen displaced Raikkonen with his last gasp attempt in Q3. Felipe Massa splits the McLarens while Kimi rests in fourth, once again. Both Scuderia Toro Rossos completed the top ten and Fernando Alonso will be looking for a decent points finish as he slides in behind Nick Heidfeld, settling for fifth and sixth respectively. Belgium 2008: Friday Afternoon Practice

Posted on September 5th, 2008 by Oliver White

With the second 90 minute practice session for the Belgian Grand Prix came the rain, washing the track and making the drivers shy about setting lap times. Although the session wasn’t a complete wash-out, the times set are noticeably slower than in the morning, and a lot of drivers complained about lack of running. One driver who wasn’t complaining though was Fernando Alonso, who finished his Friday duties on top of the timing sheet. Continue Reading

Belgium 2008: Friday Morning Practice

Posted on September 5th, 2008 by Oliver White

Both Ferraris have topped the timing sheets at Belgium’s Spa Francorchamps circuit, set in the Ardennes Forest. It was Felipe Massa who got the upper-hand and led his team mate Kimi Raikkonen for most of the session. Sliding in to third and fourth were both McLarens, Lewis Hamilton edging out Heikki Kovalainen, but lapping some 0.6s off Massa’s pace. Of the top four, it was Hamilton who made the most noticeable error, taking to the gravel at Les Combes as well as losing time at La Source on what was meant to be an improved lap. Continue Reading

The Value Of A Decent Racing Circuit Is Lost On Ecclestone

Posted on June 17th, 2008 by Oliver White

With a history of producing great Formula One races, and on a circuit that is actually good in most aspects, Suzuka today can stand proud that while their track may be aging, at least they can boast decent toilet facilities. Yes, I’m afraid that once again I most bemoan the changing of the Japanese Grand Prix venue from Honda-owned Suzuka to Toyota-owned Fuji. The reason? The circuit has received a lawsuit from 109 irate spectators from the 2007 event. Continue Reading
