While testing yesterday around the notoriously bumpy Circuit de Catalunya, it appears that David Coulthard has picked up a minor injury in his neck. The Scot has apparently tweaked his neck and has since decided to rest in case the problem is further exacerbated. So while Coulthard sits on the sidelines Red Bull have drafted in Sebastian Vettel to help out with the team’s testing programme. Vettel, who drives for partner team Scuderia Toro Rosso, will see the benefits from testing with the Red Bull squad as it has been said that the new STR3 will be a direct derivative of the RB4. The new STR is due to be delivered to the team in time for the European season. Continue Reading

The Red Bull B-team will enter their third season in 2008, but the car they will begin with will look strikingly similar to the model used at the end of 2007. This is because it pretty much is the same car, STR having recently admitted that they are indeed waiting for a hand-me-down from Red Bull Racing, as many fans had suspected. The team seem to be under the impression that this will prove to be a good move, and Ferrari and McLaren have tried this approach in the past. However, Ferrari and McLaren tried it with proven winners rather than a mere point-scraper. Continue Reading

With the second day of testing now complete at Circuit de Catalunya, the timing sheet looks as though it has been turned upside down with both Scuderia Toro Rosso’s leading the rest with the first and second fastest laps. Sebastian Vettel got the better of his Champ Car champion team mate Sebastien Bourdais, the margin between the pair just over 0.1s. Following the Bulls into third and fourth were Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen, Hamilton completing ten extra laps than the Finn and going 0.4s faster. Continue Reading

The final day of testing took place earlier today at Jerez in Spain, and the fastest man of the day was Sebastian Vettel in the Scuderia Toro Rosso. The young German lapped the circuit in 1m18.213s on slick tyres, 0.2s faster than second placed driver Robert Kubica. Vettel’s team mate Sebastien Bourdais completed the session in eighth while Marco Asmer took to the second BMW and finished up in thirteenth ahead of the two Force Indias. Continue Reading

As if it couldn’t get any worse for McLaren this year, it seems as though it could possibly still do just that. Championship leader Lewis Hamilton is currently under investigation by the Chinese Grand Prix race stewards because of his driving behaviour at the previous Japanese Grand Prix held at Fuji Speedway last weekend. It is believed that his driving while following the safety car in the poor weather conditions may have contributed to Sebastian Vettel colliding with Mark Webber, ending both races for the respective Toro Rosso and Red Bull drivers. By now, most Formula One fans will be well aware that Polish driver Robert Kubica had an almighty accident during yesterdays Canadian Grand Prix, which resulted in medics attending the scene of the crash to help Kubica out of his BMW. The young driver was rushed to the medical centre, and then air lifted to the nearest hospital for checks and x-rays. Initially, it was thought that Kubica was well and even spoke a few words to his manager. But a radio message given to Lewis Hamilton as he crossed the line to take his maiden win suggested Robert had sustained a broken leg. Those reports have now been quashed, with the injury now reported as a sprained ankle. Continue Reading
