Caption Contest: #59

Posted on October 8th, 2008 by Oliver White

The fifty-ninth photograph to feature in BlogF1’s caption contest. You know the drill, think of something funny and witty to say and leave it as a comment below. I know a lot of caption contests feature one of the four Red Bull drivers, but they’re just funny. It seems Red Bull do lots of cool/bizarre things for their PR, and believe me when I say I have about 20 backed up images of Mark Webber looking and doing something silly. But in the interest of balance, I’ll only post the Red Bull crew every now and then. Here are the 2009 drivers in Singapore. Continue Reading

Toyota Lodge Protest Against STR, Stewards Throw It Out

Posted on September 28th, 2008 by Oliver White

Shortly after the Singapore Grand Prix, Toyota lodged a protest against rival team Scuderia Toro Rosso as they felt Sebastian Vettel was unsafely released from his pitstop in to the path of Timo Glock. Despite Glock finishing ahead of Vettel in the race - so any punishment to the recent race winner won’t effect Glock’s result - it would have enabled a larger gap between the two teams in the constructors battle. Monza 2008: Sebastian Vettel Reminds Me Why Formula One Is Special

Posted on September 14th, 2008 by Oliver White

Saturday at Monza was a good day for Formula One; the on-track action allowed everybody to forget about the issues from Belgium, the weather had some fun with the teams and a likeable chap became the youngest ever pole sitter in Formula One history. It was almost as though it couldn’t be topped, but today Sebastian Vettel dominated the Italian Grand Prix to take his and the team’s maiden victory. A moment I’m sure that will be remembered and repeated for many years to come. Continue Reading

After 22 starts and at the very tender age of just 21, Sebastian Vettel has dominated the Italian Grand Prix to win in changeable conditions and give the rest of the field a damn good thrashing. From start to finish, the youngest ever winner of a Formula One grand prix gave everyone else a driving lesson as the sport revels in the delights of a star in the making. From Minardi obscurity to Scuderia Toro Rosso success, the team and driver worked beautifully to produce one the most thoroughly deserved victories in a very long time. Continue Reading

Monza 2008: The Grid

Posted on September 13th, 2008 by Oliver White

With Lewis Hamilton back in fifteenth and Kimi Raikkonen just ahead in fourteenth, tomorrow’s Italian Grand Prix is going to be belter, especially if the weather continues to throw up a few surprises. Felipe Massa qualified sixth, but engineer Rob Smedley has hinted at the Brazilian being on a heavy fuel strategy. Heikki Kovalainen has the best chance out of everyone, starting in second and in a McLaren, but Sebastian Vettel on pole position will want to remain there for as long as he can. Continue Reading

Monza 2008: Sebastian Vettel Takes His Maiden Pole Position

Posted on September 13th, 2008 by Oliver White

The qualifying session at Monza was held under very difficult conditions today, with rain falling throughout the three sessions. However, one driver set about explaining to the rest why he has received a promotion to Red Bull Racing next year - Sebastian Vettel. While the weather certainly played a large part in his pole position, Vettel’s pace was good, and with team mate Bourdais in fourth, one has to wonder if the German driver wouldn’t be better staying with STR for next year. Monza 2008: Qualifying Result

Posted on September 13th, 2008 by Oliver White

In an extraordinary qualifying session at the rain-soaked Monza circuit in Northern Italy, Sebastian Vettel has taken his very first pole position in his career, also giving his Scuderia Toro Rosso team their highest ever qualifying position. Vettel’s team mate Sebastien Bourdais underlines the pace in the car during the difficult conditions by clocking the fourth quickest time, only being demoted by Mark Webber in the dying seconds of the session. Heikki Kovalainen starts second as Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen were knocked out of the running in Q2. Continue Reading

Sebastian Vettel To Test For Red Bull

Posted on September 6th, 2008 by Oliver White

Despite not officially becoming a member of the Red Bull race team until his duties with Scuderia Toro Rosso are completed at the end of the season, the young German who has already signed an RBR contract will test for the team later in the month at Jerez. The news of Vettel’s test has heightened speculation that David Coulthard could be dropped prior to the end of the season, allowing both teams to get a jump start on familiarising themselves with their new drivers. STR To Evaluate Sébastien Buemi In Jerez

Posted on August 25th, 2008 by Oliver White

After Bruno Senna rubbished the rumour that he has already signed for Scuderia Toro Rosso for 2009, the Austro/Italian team have stated that they will be evaluating Red Bull test driver Sébastien Buemi at the Jerez test in September. Sébastien was announced as Red Bull’s test driver for this season back in January, and although the testing limits have meant the Swiss driver has seen little serious action in the car, Buemi has been busy doing PR stunts for the team as well as competing in the GP2 series. Valencia 2008: Friday Morning Practice

Posted on August 22nd, 2008 by Oliver White

The Formula One drivers finally got to drive around the new Valencia circuit earlier this morning as the free practice session got underway for Sunday’s race. Being a new track on the calendar, the tables look a little different as some drivers managed to get a great set-up from the word go while others started a little slower. And at the very top is Sebastian Vettel, charging around the streets in his Ferrari-powered Scuderia Toro Rosso. Continue Reading
