It was only a few months ago that Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz announced that he will be selling his Scuderia Toro Rosso team before the rules change out of his favour in 2010. At the time, Mateschitz said that he wouldn’t be looking for a buyer this season, but would be taking offers in 2009. However, today it has emerged that Ultimate Motorsport - a Formula Three operation - could be close to a deal that would see the outfit progress to Formula One. Continue Reading

The forty-second photograph to feature in BlogF1’s caption contest. You know the drill, think of something funny and witty to say and leave it as a comment below. This week we join Scuderia Toro Rosso driver Sebastien Bourdais and his boss Gerhard Berger in conversation during Thursday’s Free Practice in Monaco last week. Continue Reading

Born in 1987, Sebastian Vettel is among the youngest of all the Formula One drivers, the wiry built German having progressed to the sport’s highest echelon during the 2007 season with BMW. Vettel holds many records centred around his age, but he also holds the record for being the quickest driver to receive a fine, occurring only nine seconds into his career as he sped down the pit lane beyond the mandatory speed limit. Since starting with BMW and later, STR in 2007, he has gained a mixed reputation from fans and critics alike. Continue Reading

Sebastian Vettel and Sebastien Bourdais will enjoy the privilege of racing the brand new STR3 at this upcoming Monaco Grand Prix, the team having finally been able to build and test enough cars after the French half of the driving duo trashed the first one while testing. But unfortunately for Vettel, running the new car will also be rewarded with a five-grid slot penalty, thanks to the new four-race gearbox rules. Continue Reading

Scuderia Toro Rosso were due to debut their 2008 challenger in Turkey this weekend, the team having spent the first four races in a modified 2007 car. However, when the car hit the tarmac at its official first test with one of the current drivers, things didn’t go quite as well as they had been planned. The car, which comes from the pen of Red Bull’s Adrian Newey and is essentially a version of the parent team’s 2008 chassis, was running quite well. Until, that is, Sebastien Bourdais stuffed into the wall. Continue Reading

Formula One has been going through a phase of attempting to cut costs recently, the introduction of various rules controlling the amount of staff allowed at races, the amount of spare parts and the use of components within the cars all helping to shed some fat from the running costs and enable the entry barriers for new teams to be lowered. However, one rule that is due to come into force for 2009 actually adds considerable cost to some teams, so much in fact, they are currently in serious financial trouble. Continue Reading

Three races into the season and Scuderia Toro Rosso have finally received their new machine, the STR3. Designed by parent team Red Bull Racing and bearing a strong resemblance to the RB4 currently driven by Mark Webber and David Coulthard, it is hoped the new motor will help the team in getting further into the midfield. Sebastien Bourdais was the second driver to run it around a circuit, turning up this morning at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya to take part in the test session with other teams. The car has already been shaken down by New Zealand’s Brendon Hartley at Vairano a couple of weeks ago. Continue Reading

With Formula One on a three week break at the moment, the teams have descended on Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya to rack up some miles in their cars. This test session is often considered to be the season’s most important, as teams that didn’t start well in the first few races now have some time to improve their motors before the European leg begins. But what would happen if testing wasn’t allowed? Would Formula One be more or less exciting? Continue Reading

I’m not entirely sure how to write this post, but I will attempt at my very best to describe Ferrari’s recent innovation that will, it is hoped in Maranello, adorn the F2008 at some point this season. The component in question has been tested at Vairano last week with Marc Gene taking to the wheel of the Scuderia’s 2008 car. The circuit was shared, by the way, with Brendon Hartley, the New Zealander shaking down the brand new STR. Of course, the STR3 is a derivitive of the RB4, designed by Adrian Newey and hopefully built more solidly than the parent car. Anyway, back to Ferrari’s innovation… Continue Reading
