As the silly season among the Formula One drivers slowly wraps up for another year, the commentating team for the new BBC broadcasting squad has held almost similar speculation since the institution was awarded the contract earlier this year. All names under the sun have since been proposed for the job of commentator, but one always stood out among the rest - Martin Brundle. British newspaper The Daily Express are reporting that former team owner Eddie Jordan could be about to make a comeback to Formula One, the Irish businessman being linked with the BBC as part of their 2009 commentary and broadcast team. The BBC have been very tight-lipped about their line-up for their 2009 return, with Martin Brundle and David Coulthard expected to take up roles amid speculation that the FIA are trying to block Brundle’s move. Pitpass are reporting very early this Monday morning that Martin Brundle and David Coulthard will form a pivotal role in the commentating team for the 2009 BBC Formula One team. The rumours have been flying around the Internet ever since it was announced that ITV gave up their contract and the BBC would regain the sport’s broadcasting rights from 2009 onwards, and David Coulthard has been tipped for a role for a long time, only heightened after his retirement announcement. Following the news of the BBC winning the rights to air Formula One from next season onwards, and reading Sidepodcast’s tweet, I’ve decided to let you guys have your say by way of a vote. Last Friday the WMSC gave Formula One’s governing body, the FIA, permission to pursue legal action towards the Sunday Times newspaper, seeking libel over an article the paper published in September. The article, written by former Formula One driver and now respected commentator Martin Brundle, spoke about a witch-hunt against McLaren being carried out by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile. Today, Brundle has followed up his original piece and offered a rebuttal to the FIA, claiming they are trying to deter the media for speaking against them and accusing the organisation of imposing double standards on their punishment policies.
