Following on from Hamilton’s win on home soil, there was much to discuss as drivers endured a difficult British Grand Prix. Mark Webber rued his early spin that cost him dearly, Fernando Alonso ran well despite losing out by remaining on the same set of tyres and David Coulthard departed his last British race early with a coming together with Sebastian Vettel. Rubens Barrichello was over-the-moon at claiming a podium for Honda and Nick Heidfeld hopes his recent lack of form is now behind him as he took second for BMW. Continue Reading

Following the announcement that Red Bull driver David Coulthard will retire at the end of the 2008 season, Mark Webber has said that his contract has been renewed and the Australian will continue racing with the Milton Keynes team until at least the end of 2009. Earlier in the day Webber had been quoted as saying that negotiations are ongoing and that he expected an answer in the next month. However, following today’s news it would appear that everything has come together for Mark and he will remain at Red Bull for a little while longer. Continue Reading

Heikki Kovalainen as added to McLaren’s woe by getting himself a penalty to move him closer to his team mate on the grid. Two weeks ago Lewis Hamilton was given a ten-place demotion for France, and now Heikki has collected a five-place demotion for blocking Mark Webber during qualifying. To say the Woking team are going to have their work cut out tomorrow is a bit of an understatement. Continue Reading

Honda driver Jenson Button has exceeded his own expectations when he competed in the Windsor Triathlon last weekend. The British driver has shown interest in the multi-disciplined sport recently and had a target time for completing the event of 2 hours, 30 minutes. As Button crossed the line in Windsor’s Great Park at the end of the 10km run, his time was 2 hours, 22 minutes and 43 seconds. Jenson’s physiotherapist, Mike Collier, also competed and followed his driver home twelve minutes later. Continue Reading

Mark Webber experienced a near miss yesterday morning while out riding his bike in the Monaco area with two other friends. The Red Bull driver had been enjoying a ride in Menton, France with Tour de France racer Lance Armstrong (who is also Webber’s hero) and AMD’s marketing chief Morris Denton. Webber and Armstrong managed to avoid a collision with a car, but Denton struck the vehicle head-on and received substantial injuries to his arm and leg. Continue Reading

The thirty-ninth photograph to feature in BlogF1’s caption contest. You know the drill, think of something funny and witty to say and leave it as a comment below. This time around it’s Formula One’s funny-man Mark Webber. Here he is at the 2004 Australian Grand Prix with his then team mate Christian Klien. Continue Reading

Rain washed out the final day of testing at Circuit de Catalunya today, with only eight drivers setting laps and Force India deciding to head home early and save their mileage. Mark Webber ventured out on track early in between showers and was able to set a time that would stand for the rest of the day. Heikki Kovalainen was sent out in the McLaren MP4-23 and was the fastest of the drivers setting laps on the totally soaked tarmac, running 1.5s down on Webber and less than 0.1s up on Kimi Raikkonen in the Ferrari. The gap to fourth placed driver Robert Kubica was 1.1s, the remaining positions taken up by Jenson Button, Kazuki Nakajima, Nelson Piquet Jr and Jarno Trulli in eighth. Continue Reading

If ever one team looked as they were carefully orchestrating the puzzle pieces into place with high-precision, then Red Bull Racing would surely match the bill. From the team’s first season in 2005 onwards Red Bull have steadily improved, enjoying a few flash-in-the-pan results and gaining some key staff while a masterplan is followed. In 2006 Adrian Newey arrived from McLaren and a deal was struck to run Ferrari engines. In 2007 the team ran Renault engine units and apparently courted Fernando Alonso when he became available. But despite all this, last year was perhaps a year of treading water for the squad as reliability troubles hit the team and stopped them in their tracks. Continue Reading

On the final day of this weekend test at the Catalan circuit, Mark Webber managed to beat the opposition and put his Red Bull Racing in the top spot. Beating the McLarens, Webber went less than 0.05s faster than Heikki Kovalainen, but it was enough to claim the fastest lap of the day and adds to Scuderia Toro Rosso’s success yesterday. Lewis Hamilton finished the day in third with Robert Kubica for BMW in fourth and Fernando Alonso in fifth in the new Renault R28. Continue Reading
