Kimi Raikkonen has dominated the Malaysian Grand Prix, winning with outright pace after the first round of pit stops. Although the pass on team mate Felipe Massa was made in the pit lane, it was Kimi’s sensational in-lap that sealed the deal for Finn. It wasn’t all plain-sailing for Ferrari though as Massa failed to finish again. McLaren collected a few points and did the best they could from their starting positions, while the second podium of 2008 saw a different three drivers receive trophies. Continue Reading

Following the penalties handed out to Heikki Kovalainen and Lewis Hamilton, the top of the grid changed slightly as the McLaren duo fall back five places each to eighth and ninth respectively. The demotion of McLaren promotes qualifying-master Jarno Trulli in the Toyota as he originally went fifth. However, I feel the Italian may be running quite light. If it turns out that Trulli isn’t though, it would be a surprise to me, but once again confirm that Jarno is pretty good in qualifying. Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld receive promotions, the Pole to fourth and the impeded German to fifth. Renault-powered Red Bull driver Mark Webber improves to sixth while Renault factory team driver Fernando Alonso sits just behind in seventh. Continue Reading

Both Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen have been penalised on the Malaysian grid following the baulking of Nick Heidfeld at the end of qualifying. Both drivers remained on the racing line while the slowed considerably after completing their fast laps. Heidfeld, who was just starting his quick lap, was forced to weave in and out of other cars, compromising his line and ruining his lap time (videos here). The penalty for both drivers is five grid slots, demoting Hamilton to ninth and Kovalainen to eighth. Continue Reading

Felipe Massa has taken pole position for tomorrow’s Malaysian Grand Prix at the humid Sepang circuit. The Brazilian has been looking pretty handy around the track all weekend and finally brushed off advances from team mate Kimi Raikkonen with a stunning final lap that saw him clear both McLaren’s as well. The Woking-based team are not enjoying this circuit as much as Albert Park, but Heikki Kovalainen lines up third with Lewis Hamilton in fourth. Continue Reading

Nick Heidfeld has had his final fast lap compromised by other drivers on the track during the third phase of qualifying for tomorrow’s Malaysian Grand Prix. As the rest of the field had set their hot laps earlier in the session, Nick Heidfeld started his final run just as the others went into fuel-save mode. The result meant Heidfeld was forced to dangerously weave around the other competitors who remained on the racing line. Continue Reading

It’s been a busy few days for Formula One, what with Williams and Renault taking the covers off their new cars, testing resuming at Valencia and Mosley speaking further on budget caps and spy sagas. Nigel Stepney has also been hitting the headlines today and apparently Malaysia wants their 2009 race to held in darkness. Which if agreed, might stop Bernie Ecclestone moaning about the state of the circuit. Continue Reading
