Jackie Stewart Slams Bernie Ecclestone

Sir Jackie Stewart, former world champion and team owner, has launched a scathing attack on Formula One’s commercial rights holder, Bernie Ecclestone. Speaking to The Times newspaper, Stewart said that time for change is now essential in the sport’s senior management. The British Winners Of The British Grand Prix: Jackie Stewart

It wasn’t long after Jim Clark’s run of British Grand Prix success came to an end that the national anthem was once again played for the podium celebrations at Silverstone. The driver taking the laurel wreath was Jackie Stewart, a pilot who would go on to become a triple world champion and one of the sport’s most well-known ambassadors. Stewart won the British Grand Prix twice, first in 1969 and again two years later in 1971. Continue Reading

Jimmy Stewart: 1931 - 2008

Following the sad news of Jimmy Stewart’s passing yesterday, BlogF1 would like offer condolences to the Stewart family. Jimmy, a one-time Grand Prix entrant and older brother of triple world champion Jackie, passed away aged 76. Jimmy encouraged his younger brother to take up motor racing with Tyrrell after his only F1 race, the 1953 British Grand Prix. He qualified 15th but retired after 79 laps. Following Formula One Jimmy took up sportscar racing but finally bowed out in 1955 after two accidents, one at Le Mans and Silverstone the other. Continue Reading

Should Mosley Resign?

A major talking point of the last few days has been the war of words between FIA President, Max Mosley, and respected triple world champion Sir Jackie Stewart. The argument stems from the way the FIA – Formula One’s governing body – have dealt with the McLaren/Ferrari spy saga, and subsequently the words each high-profiled member of the F1 fraternity has used. Talks of legal action, resignations and poor performance have all come to the fore, and it looks very likely to continue well after the 2007 world champion has been crowned. Continue Reading
