The fifty-sixth photograph to feature in BlogF1’s caption contest. You know the drill, think of something funny and witty to say and leave it as a comment below. I know, two Red Bull pictures in a row, but Mark Webber just produces some of the funniest facial expressions I cannot help myself. Here is Mark mid-discussion with Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone. But what could the Australian possibly be saying to the diminutive Brit. Continue Reading

Saturday at Monza was a good day for Formula One; the on-track action allowed everybody to forget about the issues from Belgium, the weather had some fun with the teams and a likeable chap became the youngest ever pole sitter in Formula One history. It was almost as though it couldn’t be topped, but today Sebastian Vettel dominated the Italian Grand Prix to take his and the team’s maiden victory. A moment I’m sure that will be remembered and repeated for many years to come. Continue Reading

After 22 starts and at the very tender age of just 21, Sebastian Vettel has dominated the Italian Grand Prix to win in changeable conditions and give the rest of the field a damn good thrashing. From start to finish, the youngest ever winner of a Formula One grand prix gave everyone else a driving lesson as the sport revels in the delights of a star in the making. From Minardi obscurity to Scuderia Toro Rosso success, the team and driver worked beautifully to produce one the most thoroughly deserved victories in a very long time. Continue Reading

Although BlogF1 may not be able to take part in this live blog - I have work commitments - I’m putting up the live blog box thingy here because I know a few of you enjoy it. As ever, the regulars will be around and the discussion will be fast-paced. With Sebastian Vettel on his first pole and with Heikki Kovalainen looking to ensure McLaren get a good haul of points, this is going to be one Italian Grand Prix you’re not going to forget in a hurry. Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen will be wanting to come through the field as quickly as possible, and if it rains, Felipe Massa may even put on a bit of synchronised spinning for us. A wet race weekend always produces some interesting images, so below are a selection depicting how the teams and drivers have coped with the unusually high amount of precipitation in Northern Italy. The teams had to deal with flooded garages yesterday when the drains became overwhelmed, and today the drivers had to qualify on a very wet track. There were plenty of spins, particularly at the Variante Ascari section leading on to the back straight. Continue Reading

With Lewis Hamilton back in fifteenth and Kimi Raikkonen just ahead in fourteenth, tomorrow’s Italian Grand Prix is going to be belter, especially if the weather continues to throw up a few surprises. Felipe Massa qualified sixth, but engineer Rob Smedley has hinted at the Brazilian being on a heavy fuel strategy. Heikki Kovalainen has the best chance out of everyone, starting in second and in a McLaren, but Sebastian Vettel on pole position will want to remain there for as long as he can. Continue Reading

The qualifying session at Monza was held under very difficult conditions today, with rain falling throughout the three sessions. However, one driver set about explaining to the rest why he has received a promotion to Red Bull Racing next year - Sebastian Vettel. While the weather certainly played a large part in his pole position, Vettel’s pace was good, and with team mate Bourdais in fourth, one has to wonder if the German driver wouldn’t be better staying with STR for next year. In an extraordinary qualifying session at the rain-soaked Monza circuit in Northern Italy, Sebastian Vettel has taken his very first pole position in his career, also giving his Scuderia Toro Rosso team their highest ever qualifying position. Vettel’s team mate Sebastien Bourdais underlines the pace in the car during the difficult conditions by clocking the fourth quickest time, only being demoted by Mark Webber in the dying seconds of the session. Heikki Kovalainen starts second as Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen were knocked out of the running in Q2. Continue Reading

With the rain clearing in time for the second 90 minute practice session at Monza, the teams went out early to get in as many laps as possible, maximising their running to ensure a decent set up is found for Saturday and Sunday. And at the end of the day, it was Kimi Raikkonen who set the fastest lap, heading a slightly topsy-turvy field. Both BMW’s showed surprising form given that it is still Friday with Robert Kubica taking second and Nick Heidfeld third. Continue Reading

The first 90 minute free practice session for this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix was completed under heavy rain. The start of the session saw little actual precipitation fall, but the track was still damp from earlier showers. Only a few drivers went out and completed a fast lap, and then further showers prevented the remainder of the field going out on track. Adrian Sutil in the Force India set the quickest time, with team mate Giancarlo Fisichella in third. Continue Reading
