Indian Grand Prix Postponed Until 2011

India has had its inaugural grand prix put back by twelve months, Bernie Ecclestone announced today. The Indian Olympic Committee had thought this may happen, and during the Singapore Grand Prix the rumour was spreading. But the increasingly developing country remained buoyant over its contract to hold a race, and apparently plans are being drawn up for the purpose-built permanent circuit on the outskirts of New Delhi. Tony Teixeira Is Sending Out The Wrong Message

I’ve just read this article on Autosport, which in essence is about India’s participation in motor sport, primarily Formula One and A1GP, for which Tony Teixeira is the chairman of. Teixeira talks about Narain Karthikeyan, so-called the fastest Indian in the world, and his success in the A1GP series. Karthikeyan has raced in Formula One before with Jordan, but due to the instability in the team and the eventual changing of hands to the Midland group, Narain didn’t get another chance to show his worth in the sport. But racing with the Indian A1GP team, Karthikeyan has given the country it’s first win in the series and continues to promote the sport in his home country. And it is promotion that Teixeira feels Formula One team Force India are getting wrong. Continue Reading

India Joins The 2009 Formula One Calendar

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has today announced that they will be joining the ever-growing 2009 Formula One calendar. Along with Valencia and Singapore who are set to join next season, India and Abu Dhabi will expand the season from the year after. While the country still has yet to build a track for the inaugural Grand Prix, IOA President Suresh Kalmadi made a statement to the press earlier. Continue Reading
