The fifty-seventh photograph to feature in BlogF1’s caption contest. You know the drill, think of something funny and witty to say and leave it as a comment below. Sorry it’s a bit later than normal, but work has had me snowed under this week. Regular posting will resume on Friday, but until then, feel free to caption these two marshals who were caught chilling out at the Hungarian Grand Prix this year. Continue Reading

The fifty-first photograph to feature in BlogF1’s caption contest. You know the drill, think of something funny and witty to say and leave it as a comment below. Here we have Kimi Raikkonen in the Hungarian Grand Prix post-race press conference. He had a great end to his race at the Hungaroring, but it could have been so much more. Continue Reading

Heikki Kovalainen has taken his very first race win as the Hungarian Grand Prix threw up several surprises during the 70-lap grand prix. From the start it looked as though Felipe Massa would be the eventual winner having passed both McLaren’s into turn one on the first lap. However, with just three laps to go the Ferrari engine in Massa’s F2008 let go and the Brazilian was forced to retire. Kovalainen, who was chasing in second, was promoted to victor while Hamilton languished in fifth. Continue Reading

Heikki Kovalainen has taken his maiden grand prix victory around the Hungaroring, leading Timo Glock and Kimi Raikkonen on to the podium. In a race that was led by Felipe Massa from the start, it wasn’t until the third lap from the end that the race took it’s final twist with the Ferrari engine expiring. Lewis Hamilton suffered a puncture while chasing Massa mid-race and Renault managed to get both drivers in the points. Toyota are stronger and Kovalainen finally has his win. Continue Reading

During the Hungarian Grand Prix, several teams experienced small flash fires from the fuel as they refuelled the cars during pitstops. On occasion a team may experience a small spillage of fuel over the engine cover, and as it reaches the rear where the hot exhausts are, it can ignite. However, the fuel rig is clever and as soon as it recognises it wants to be removed, it shuts off prior to removal. This prevents fuel leaking from the nozzle, but doesn’t prevent overfill. In these cases, often the driver just leaves the pits and the fuel burns up before the pilot deactivates the speed limiter. But at least three teams suffered probems in Hungary - is there a problem…? BlogF1 will continue its involvement in the Live Blog this afternoon as the Hungarian Grand Prix unfolds before us. Along with the regulars, we will watch as Ferrari try to come back from a lacklustre qualifying and take the fight to McLaren who have locked-out the front row. Can Heikki Kovalainen add to the history of the Hungaroring for producing maiden wins, can Lewis Hamilton make it a hat-trick or will Fernando Alonso, Timo Glock or Robert Kubica come through to challenge the silver cars…? During the first qualifying session for tomorrow’s Hungarian Grand Prix, Sebastien Bourdais appeared to baulk Nick Heidfeld on a fast lap. As a result of Heidfeld’s complaint and poor qualifying run, the marshals at the Hungaroring investigated the matter, the result of which is a five grid-slot penalty for the French driver. This penalty puts Bourdais back in nineteenth, promoting Giancarlo Fischella, Rubens Barrichello, Kazuki Nakajima, Nick Heidfeld and Nico Rosberg up one place each. Continue Reading

McLaren look very strong on the front row of the Hungaroring grid. The pair of MP4-23 drivers appear to be hooked-up with the Hungarian circuit and the car is doing a good job on the tight and twisty corners. Ferrari have a lot of work do, especially as Kimi Raikkonen is back in sixth. Between himself and his team mate in third are Robert Kubica and Timo Glock. And just behind the Finn are Fernando Alonso - who has looked relatively pacey all weekend - and Mark Webber and Jarno Trulli, both in reasonably competitive cars. Continue Reading

Lewis Hamilton has taken pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix, charging his McLaren around the Hungaroring in style and beating his team mate by 0.241s. Heikki Kovalainen locked out the front row for the Woking team with impressive style. McLaren appear to beack on pace now and Ferrari are struggling slightly. Felipe Massa managed to get third and didn’t look too off-pace, but Kimi Raikkonen once again had a troubled qualifying and only managed sixth in his F2008. Continue Reading
