FIA To Review How Formula One Is Governed

The FIA World Motor Sport Council have met in Paris today at their French headquarters on Place de la Concorde. Among the topics covered in the meeting was the 2009 Formula One calendar, which has been released as a provisional schedule (full details were posted earlier) and also discussed was the future direction of the sport. The FIA are to conduct a review of how Formula One is governed, only weeks after Bernie Ecclestone (through his companies) suggested he wanted more control over the sport. Continue Reading

Bruno Senna Takes Sideways Pole In France

Bruno Senna, nephew to the late Ayrton Senna, has taken a somewhat strange pole position for the GP2 event in Magny Cours this weekend. Following the Formula One circus around, GP2 is a major feeder series to Formula One, and young Senna is one of the stars pipped for future success. However, his antics in France have shown tanacity that I’ve only heard of from his uncle. How Long Should A Race Be?

Sepang - 2007 Malaysian Grand PrixLast year I tackled a difficult subject here at BlogF1, that being how Formula One is sometimes perceived as boring. The article went down quite well with fans and non-fans, and some great comments were left. A couple of commenters touched on the time taken to absorb Formula One, its complexities and nuances. And indeed it does take quite a commitment to follow properly, or even just to grasp a basic understanding of what is actually happening on the track. Today, I revisited the subject in my mind and realised that perhaps part of the problem isn’t necessarily the long-haul commitment needed over time, but rather the short-term dedication; actually watching the races.
