During yesterday’s pre-British Grand Prix test at Silverstone, Giancarlo Fisichella suffered a fairly sizable impact at the Becketts Complex in his Force India. While testing out some modifications to the car, it would seem as though the Italian was caught by a strong gust of wind that unstabilised the car and led to an impact with the barrier. Fisichella was taken to hospital for checks, and although the previous grand prix winner said he was fine, the medics paid particular attention to his wrists: Giancarlo did not take his hands off the steering wheel. The second day of the Silverstone test has wrapped up and despite the odd shower, most teams had a reasonably productive day. Heikki Kovalainen went fastest in the McLaren MP4-23 and edged out the improved Toyota of Jarno Trulli. With test driver Kamui Kobayashi going fourth yesterday it would seem that Trulli and Glock’s recent results were not flashes in the pans, but actual improvement. Jarno was focused on set up work for the British Grand Prix and covered 95 laps. Continue Reading

The forty-fifth photograph to feature in BlogF1’s caption contest. You know the drill, think of something funny and witty to say and leave it as a comment below. Here’s a picture of Giancarlo Fisichella checking out the back of his Jordan after retiring from the 2002 Brazilian Grand Prix. A year later he would go on to score is maiden victory at the circuit, but in ‘02 he had no such luck. Continue Reading

Monaco is considered to be a challenge like no other for Formula One drivers; the twisting nature of the circuit and proximity of the unforgiving barriers heighten the concentration needed of even the most intense of racers. History tells us that Ayrton Senna and Graham Hill are the undisputed masters of all-time, Senna heading the record books with six wins to Hill’s five. In recent times, Michael Schumacher managed to tame the beast on five occasions as well, edging out Alain Prost on four. But of the current grid, who teases and respects the armco in equal quantities? Continue Reading

The former Jordan, Midland and Spyker team - now called Force India - have been optimistic of achieving a place in the second round of qualifying since they landed in Australia last month. The team have performing fairly well considering where they started from and Vijay Mallya’s squad should be pleased with what they’ve already managed. Giancarlo Fisichella has been able to haul the VJM-01 into two 17th places and an 18th on the grid for the three races so far, but on the recent attempt in Bahrain the experienced Italian was only a couple of tenths away from getting into Q2. And in their build-up to the Spanish Grand Prix, Force India are once again hoping they can achieve their first milestone. Continue Reading

The R25 was a championship winner, as was the R26, both chassis winning numerous races and claiming a drivers title each at the hands of Fernando Alonso. But after the Spaniards defection to McLaren in 2007, Renault produced a bit of a dog with the R27. When the Anglo-French team arrived at the first race, there were many unknowns. Fisichella had only won two races in the last two years and many doubted his ability to lead the team and rookie partner Heikki Kovalainen Continue Reading

It almost seems an age since Jordan were gracing the circuits of the world, running around in their yellow liveries and sparking passion in many fans lining the track. Which is odd, considering it was only three years ago. Since then though, the team has change hands on a seemingly regular basis, the music stopping this time with Vijay Mallya. The Indian billionaire has bought and re-branded the team into Force India, and one difference from his efforts so far in comparison to his predecessors, is that he appears to mean business. Although this post is a little late due to me being away when it happened, Force India became the penultimate team (discounting Scuderia Toro Rosso) to unveil their new car to the media, the new owner and sponsors influencing the choice of Mumbai in India for the launch. The car has received an updated livery, as well as new sponsors and a hopefully improved chassis. The team continue to use customer Ferrari engines, the deal not due to expire until 2010, and with Giancarlo Fisichella partnering Adrian Sutil, 2008 could be a good year if everything goes according to plan. Former Renault driver and race winner Giancarlo Fisichella has been confirmed as a Force India driver for 2008, it has finally been reported. The Italian, who has spent time at Jordan, Sauber, Benetton and Renault was essentially booted out of the French team following Flavio Briatore’s decision to reinvigorate the squad with Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet Jr. However, last December Giancarlo tested for Force India and drove well, impressing the teams new owner Vijay Mallya and embarrassing Ralf Schumacher. Fisichella will partner Adrian Sutil who has a long-term contract with the team. Continue Reading
