I’ve just read this article on Autosport, which in essence is about India’s participation in motor sport, primarily Formula One and A1GP, for which Tony Teixeira is the chairman of. Teixeira talks about Narain Karthikeyan, so-called the fastest Indian in the world, and his success in the A1GP series. Karthikeyan has raced in Formula One before with Jordan, but due to the instability in the team and the eventual changing of hands to the Midland group, Narain didn’t get another chance to show his worth in the sport. But racing with the Indian A1GP team, Karthikeyan has given the country it’s first win in the series and continues to promote the sport in his home country. And it is promotion that Teixeira feels Formula One team Force India are getting wrong. Continue Reading

Continuing the feel good factor that Thursday has brought to Formula One, I can now report that McLaren, who are now located at the far end of the Spanish pit lane, invited their neighbours over for a cup of tea and a slice of cake. The neighbourly gesture was taken up by about 20 members of each team (Force India and Super Aguri) and Aguri driver Anthony Davidson took full advantage to see how the other half live. The former Jordan, Midland and Spyker team - now called Force India - have been optimistic of achieving a place in the second round of qualifying since they landed in Australia last month. The team have performing fairly well considering where they started from and Vijay Mallya’s squad should be pleased with what they’ve already managed. Giancarlo Fisichella has been able to haul the VJM-01 into two 17th places and an 18th on the grid for the three races so far, but on the recent attempt in Bahrain the experienced Italian was only a couple of tenths away from getting into Q2. And in their build-up to the Spanish Grand Prix, Force India are once again hoping they can achieve their first milestone. Continue Reading

Former team owner Eddie Jordan may not have been around for a few years, having sold his squad to Midland in 2005, and since seen it passed around like a bad cold to Spyker and now to Vijay Mallya. But it seems as though the Irishman wasn’t entirely out of the picture as news today reports of a problem at the Force India factory in Northamptonshire. The factory was once owned by Jordan and went with the sale of the team. However, it now seems as though the former-team owner still owns a part of the land the building sits on. Which is apparently a problem for Eddie… Continue Reading

It almost seems an age since Jordan were gracing the circuits of the world, running around in their yellow liveries and sparking passion in many fans lining the track. Which is odd, considering it was only three years ago. Since then though, the team has change hands on a seemingly regular basis, the music stopping this time with Vijay Mallya. The Indian billionaire has bought and re-branded the team into Force India, and one difference from his efforts so far in comparison to his predecessors, is that he appears to mean business. Former Renault driver and race winner Giancarlo Fisichella has been confirmed as a Force India driver for 2008, it has finally been reported. The Italian, who has spent time at Jordan, Sauber, Benetton and Renault was essentially booted out of the French team following Flavio Briatore’s decision to reinvigorate the squad with Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet Jr. However, last December Giancarlo tested for Force India and drove well, impressing the teams new owner Vijay Mallya and embarrassing Ralf Schumacher. Fisichella will partner Adrian Sutil who has a long-term contract with the team. Continue Reading

As Alianora pointed out in the comments yesterday, Ralf Schumacher has stated he is not interested in driving for the Force India team despite testing for them at Jerez on Thursday. The re-branded Jordan-Midland-Spyker outfit are on the prowl for some decent drivers and have tested a fair few since the 2007 season ended last October. Among those having tried their hands at the car are Franck Montagny, Christian Klien and Giancarlo Fisichella. Fisichella seemed relatively happy after his two days running and even placed the car in ninth spot after the first day. Franck didn’t look particularly upset with his experience and Klien has been on a bit of a high recently after impressing the right people at the squad. So why is Ralf Schumacher unhappy? With Fernando Alonso’s future still not set in stone, potential Formula One refugees are looking elsewhere for drives for the 2008 season. Flavio Briatore, Renault’s boss, has stated that his team would have “new drivers” for next year, intimating that both Heikki Kovalainen and Giancarlo Fisichella will either be demoted to a testing role or will leave altogether. Kovalainen looks good for the McLaren seat, but he faces competition from Nico Rosberg and Adrian Sutil. Interestingly though, both went on record earlier in the week stating that there futures lie with their current teams, Williams and Force India respectively. Continue Reading
