The Canadian Grand Prix Is Not Completely Dead, Yet

Posted on October 22nd, 2008 by Oliver White

After the Canadian Grand Prix was rudely dropped from the 2009 calendar, the world gasped in horror at the largest automobile market on the planet not having the opportunity to showcase the very sport that the car manufacturers invest in. The North American fanbase were appalled, and I personally was disgusted at not only losing a great track, but also the way in which the cancellation had apparently been handled. However, it would appear that not all is lost for next season… Continue Reading

A Taste Of Their Own Medicine

Posted on October 20th, 2008 by Oliver White

About two weeks ago, the FIA announced via the press that the Canadian Grand Prix had been dropped from the 2009 Formula One World Championship, causing an uproar among fans the world over, particularly those residing in North America. The continent and major motor-industry market have lost a key race, especially so given that there is no USGP at the current time. But the reported nature of the way the race was dropped has started a war of words between the Grand Prix du Canada organisation at the FIA and FOM. Continue Reading

Au Revoir, Montreal

Posted on October 9th, 2008 by Oliver White

There is little worse than losing Suzuka from the calendar every other year. There is little worse than the circuit, possibly the country which hosted the very first grand prix losing a place in the championship. And there is little worse than the pinnacle series in international motorsport not racing in the largest car market on the planet. But Bernie Ecclestone and the FIA have managed what I previously thought was impossible. The Canadian Grand Prix is apparently no more. Continue Reading

Posted on July 30th, 2008 by Oliver White

The Formula One team bosses met at Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters yesterday to discuss the future of the sport and it’s immediate concern regarding the Concorde Agreement - a document that outlines the commercial and financial rewards from competing in Formula One. Along with representatives from each of the ten teams, Bernie Ecclestone and CVC managing partner Donald McKenzie were also present. One result from the talks is the creation of a new association. Silverstone Loses Out To Donington Park From 2010 Onwards

Posted on July 4th, 2008 by Oliver White

The FIA has announced that from 2010 onwards, the British Grand Prix will be held at the Donington Park circuit in Leicestershire. The announcement has come at the start of the now-penultimate Silverstone-hosted British Grand Prix, and after a continous run of 21 races (41 in total), Bernie Ecclestone and the FIA have decided to secure the country’s race and move the venue. Donington has vowed a £100m investment programme for the track and it will host the British event for at least ten years. Continue Reading

Is Formula One Fan Friendly?

Posted on July 2nd, 2008 by Oliver White

In a word, I would have to say “no”. It is a particular bug-bear of mine and it refuses to go away. What has prompted this recent suggestion that Formula One does not do enough for the fans is Martin Whitmarsh, McLaren’s CEO, who has gone on record and stated the same; he feels Formula One is too secretive and that those involved have not yet done enough to cater for all the different types of fans the sport has. His comments are interesting and worth discussing. Continue Reading

How Can I Watch Formula One Online?

Posted on April 7th, 2008 by Oliver White

Watching Formula One online is something a lot of Formula One fans have asked for in recent years, and just prior to the start of the 2008 season, Bernie Ecclestone reached an agreement with UK broadcaster ITV to show races live via the Internet. Three races into the season I feel it is time to look at the services on offer and give my opinions on online viewing. Continue Reading

What Can Be Done To Improve Formula One’s Coverage?

Posted on October 25th, 2007 by Oliver White

Every year, Formula One fans the world over bemoan the coverage of their beloved sport. Be it the broadcast from Bernie Ecclestone’s company, FOM, or be it each countries pre and post-race shows. The media aspect of Formula One also comes under fire with some regularity, with online viewing currently not being allowed and videos being taking down from all the popular sites. In fact, the only good thing I can see with the coverage is the official live-timing, but even then it sometimes slows down or doesn’t work as it should. So what can be done, what should be done, and what would we love to see in the future? Continue Reading
