Nick Heidfeld Hit With Grid Penalty

Following Rubens Barrichello’s gesticulation as he drove down the Singapore pitlane earlier today, the actions that caused Rubens to wave have been dealt with by the stewards; Nick Heidfeld has received a three-grid slot penalty for impeding Barrichello. It has been suggested by the drivers that the pitlane entrance requires even further investigation after they have found it difficult to negotiate slower moving cars entering the lane. The deceleration zone has already been moved once, and it is unlikely to get another shift before tomorrow’s race. Continue Reading

The FIA Attempt To Clear The Air

Following the penalty imposed on Lewis Hamilton at last weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix, the FIA have attempted to clear the air with the drivers and fans by clarifying a few things. Max Mosley is present in the Italian paddock this weekend, his first appearance at a grand prix since Monaco, and he himself had a few words to say about the supposed leniency towards Ferrari, and of course, the fans belief that the FIA are overly strict with McLaren. What Others Have To Say On That Penalty

The F1 world has received a lot of publicity this week; some good and some bad, depending on your own view. But needless to say, just about everyone has an opinion on the penalty Lewis Hamilton received after his on-track skirmish with Kimi Raikkonen at the end of the Belgian Grand Prix. Many Formula One insiders have offered their view on the decision by the stewards to add 25s to Hamilton’s time, and the view from the paddock is just as mixed as the views from the fans. McLaren Confirm: Appeal Lodged With FIA

McLaren have confirmed, after much discussion, that they have now lodged an appeal with the FIA over the decision to penalise Lewis Hamilton with a post-race drive-thru following the Belgian Grand Prix. The penalty, which followed an on-track skirmish between the McLaren driver and Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen, has left many fans feeling annoyed at the steward’s inconsistency and of course, the actually ambiguity of the incident itself. McLaren Lodge Intention Of Appeal To Stewards Decision

As expected, McLaren have announced they will be appealing the decision made by the stewards after the Belgian Grand Prix. As it stands currently, McLaren have lodged their intention to appeal and firmly believe Lewis Hamilton played fair by backing off and allowing Kimi Raikkonen to move ahead before continuing. Teams Look Into Ways Of Retaining Summer Break

It was recently announced that Ron Dennis of McLaren will be rotating his grand prix staff as of next year due to the lack of a three week summer break. In previous seasons, 2008 inclusive, Formula One had been allowed a mid-season three week break, allowing those that travel with the teams a chance to take some time off and relax away from the pressures of work. Formula One Team Bosses Create More Bureaucracy

The Formula One team bosses met at Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters yesterday to discuss the future of the sport and it’s immediate concern regarding the Concorde Agreement - a document that outlines the commercial and financial rewards from competing in Formula One. Along with representatives from each of the ten teams, Bernie Ecclestone and CVC managing partner Donald McKenzie were also present. One result from the talks is the creation of a new association. Max Mosley Wins Case Against News Of The World

FIA president Max Mosley has won his privacy case against British newspaper the News Of The World. The verdict came earlier today after Mosley took the paper to court following the publication of photos and a video extracts of Mosley involved in an orgy at a London apartment back in March. After a key witness failed to testify and evidence of Nazi overtones not found, Mosley has been awarded £60,000 and the newspaper will have to pay the costs, expected to around £1m. Continue Reading

Should The FIA Be Allowed To Break Their Own Rules?

Pitpass have an interesting article up this morning that mirrors a printed article in the Independent On Sunday from the same author. The article asks some pertinent questions relating to the Stepneygate saga, specifically the way the FIA handled the matter and the fine that was imposed on McLaren after they were found guilty of bringing the sport into disrepute. According to Pitpass’s Christopher Sylt and motor sport lawyers Jonathan Lux and Avnish Shah, Bernie Ecclestone and Jean Todt have no right to sit on the WMSC. Continue Reading

Silverstone Loses Out To Donington Park From 2010 Onwards

The FIA has announced that from 2010 onwards, the British Grand Prix will be held at the Donington Park circuit in Leicestershire. The announcement has come at the start of the now-penultimate Silverstone-hosted British Grand Prix, and after a continous run of 21 races (41 in total), Bernie Ecclestone and the FIA have decided to secure the country’s race and move the venue. Donington has vowed a £100m investment programme for the track and it will host the British event for at least ten years. Continue Reading
