Scuderia Toro Rosso have announced that all three main hopefuls for the two race seats in their team will take part in next week’s test at the Spanish circuit, Jerez. This will be the third time Takuma Sato will have spent some time in the car, the unemployed Japanese driver having previously tested for the squad in September and November. Sebastien Bourdais will continue to fight for his chance to spend a second season with STR while the perhaps favourite, Red Bull Racing test driver Sebastien Buemi, will also join the group. Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz is apparently reconsidering putting his second team on the market following Sebastian Vettel’s win in Italy last month. The Scuderia Toro Rosso team have improved greatly in the past two years and while much of that is because of the hand-me-down chassis from Adrian Newey and the powerful Ferrari engine unit, one cannot completely ignore the fact that they are setting the track alight while parent-squad Red Bull Racing are not. It was only a few months ago that Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz announced that he will be selling his Scuderia Toro Rosso team before the rules change out of his favour in 2010. At the time, Mateschitz said that he wouldn’t be looking for a buyer this season, but would be taking offers in 2009. However, today it has emerged that Ultimate Motorsport - a Formula Three operation - could be close to a deal that would see the outfit progress to Formula One. Continue Reading

Dietrich Mateschitz and Gerhard Berger, the owners of Formula One team Scuderia Toro Rosso, have told Swiss publication Motorsport Aktuell that the team is on the market. Due to rule changes expected to come into force in 2010, customer chassis will be outlawed, meaning the operation of Red Bull’s second squad will be made a lot harder. Currently, the smaller team receives a chassis from Red Bull each year that is remarkably similar to the larger team’s. But the extra cost and burden of designing and building a separate car is too much for Red Bull to take. Continue Reading
