Monza Test Day Two: Heidfeld Responds By Going Fastest

Posted on August 28th, 2008 by Oliver White

The second day of testing at Italy’s Monza circuit saw Nick Heidfeld go fastest for BMW and respond to his bosses warning yesterday that his position in the team may be under threat. Although the teams are just trying out varying set ups to prepare for the race at Monza in mid-September, Heidfeld managed to go 0.2s faster than Nico Rosberg in the Williams, who was himself 0.5s up on McLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen. Glock Gets Heidfeld’s Finger, But Escapes Penalty

Posted on August 23rd, 2008 by Oliver White

Timo Glock has avoided feeling the wrath of the stewards after Nick Heidfeld complained of his fellow German’s driving. During qualifying, Glock forced Heidfeld off his racing line, the result for the BMW driver was a lock-up and time lost. Although Heidfeld’s lap was destoyed, he was running the prime tyre at the time and had the ability to set another lap before the grip was gone. Nick Heidfeld managed a good lap the second time around but was absolutely furious with the Toyota pilot, gesturing so from the cockpit of hs car. Continue Reading

Posted on June 9th, 2008 by Oliver White

Robert Kubica has taken his first victory at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, propelling him to the very top of the drivers championship by four points. The win, which was also BMW’s very first in the sport as well, proves Kubica’s worth and Robert’s fine result was backed up by team mate Nick Heidfeld taking second place ahead of David Coulthard in his Red Bull. Considering what happened twelve months ago, the result will be fondly cherished by Kubica for a very long time, and for sure it is only the beginning of a successful career. Continue Reading

Robert Kubica has win the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix. In a very interesting race that just about had everything, the Polish driver came through to win BMW’s first race. Nick Heidfeld in the sister car came home in second making the Swiss-German teams results even more sweeter. David Coulthard finished third and deservedly took to the podium with joy, scoring his first points of the year. Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen retired after the Briton crashed into the Finn during the pitstops. Continue Reading

Just How Good Is Sebastian Vettel?

Posted on May 26th, 2008 by Oliver White

Born in 1987, Sebastian Vettel is among the youngest of all the Formula One drivers, the wiry built German having progressed to the sport’s highest echelon during the 2007 season with BMW. Vettel holds many records centred around his age, but he also holds the record for being the quickest driver to receive a fine, occurring only nine seconds into his career as he sped down the pit lane beyond the mandatory speed limit. Since starting with BMW and later, STR in 2007, he has gained a mixed reputation from fans and critics alike. Continue Reading

Has Fernando Alonso Signed For Ferrari Already?

Posted on May 24th, 2008 by Oliver White

The silly season has already been in full swing for a while now, and with deals being signed more than the usual 6 months in advance, it is perfectly possible that Fernando Alonso has signed his future away to Ferrari already. The latest installment of this rumour comes from Grandprix.com, who today posted that they believe the Spaniard has put pen to paper for Maranello. However, given the driver current line-up and their contracts, combined with the remarks made by Ferrari’s president about having two world champions in the team, is it a little too far fetched? Theissen Defends Heidfeld As Kubica Negotiates Extension

Posted on May 14th, 2008 by Oliver White

Robert Kubica is currently only confirmed at BMW for the remainder of this season, and looking at the Pole’s start to 2008, the Swiss-German squad would do well to extend his contract for as long as they can. However, while Kubica looks to prolong his stay at Hinwil, team boss Mario Theissen has felt it necessary to publicly defend his other driver, Nick Heidfeld. Currently, Robert leads his much more experienced team mate in the championship hunt, and even last year was pressuring the German for points and positions. Continue Reading

Have Renault Improved, Or Was Is It For The Fans?

Posted on April 26th, 2008 by Oliver White

The qualifying session for the 2008 Spanish Grand Prix threw up a couple of surprises, but I think all the talking points have centred around one driver - Fernando Alonso. The double world champion was able to place his Renault R28 on provisional pole position with his final lap of the day. Unfortunately to the euphoric crowds who stood, cheered and applauded their hero, Kimi Raikkonen followed Alonso over the line with a pole-stealing lap. The Finnish driver simply had a faster car on the day. However, while many expect Alonso is light on fuel, we need to consider Nelson Piquet Jr’s lap as well, the Brazilian managing to get in to tenth. Continue Reading

BMW driver Nick Heidfeld performed a demonstration run at the company’s Munich factory earlier today. As a way of thanking the staff of BMW who regularly watch the races and follow the squad’s progression around the world, Heidfeld performed a series of donuts and spoke with employees at the plant. World Touring Car driver Jorg Muller was also present, driving his BMW 320si. Team boss Mario Theissen said that transporting factory workers to the races was very difficult to achieve, so wanted to put on a show in order to praise their support for the Formula One operation. BMW & Honda: Opposing Parallels?

Posted on April 20th, 2008 by Oliver White

BMW are making for interesting viewing at the moment, the former Sauber team looking to be on the verge of their maiden win and thinking slightly longer-term, on the verge of their maiden constructor’s title. But this evening, while sitting in The Blogger’s Dog, it struck me that the team have very similar experience to another on the grid. The other team has gone that bit further and taken a victorious drink of Mumm, but in all honesty, that moment is all but a distant memory among the torrid battles with a woefully uncompetitive car. The other team is of course Honda, and the paths each have followed are quite interesting. Continue Reading
