The F1 world has received a lot of publicity this week; some good and some bad, depending on your own view. But needless to say, just about everyone has an opinion on the penalty Lewis Hamilton received after his on-track skirmish with Kimi Raikkonen at the end of the Belgian Grand Prix. Many Formula One insiders have offered their view on the decision by the stewards to add 25s to Hamilton’s time, and the view from the paddock is just as mixed as the views from the fans. As expected, McLaren have announced they will be appealing the decision made by the stewards after the Belgian Grand Prix. As it stands currently, McLaren have lodged their intention to appeal and firmly believe Lewis Hamilton played fair by backing off and allowing Kimi Raikkonen to move ahead before continuing. And as the previous post here on BlogF1 shows, a fair few fans are behind Ron Dennis as well. Continue Reading

After the news that Lewis Hamilton has been handed a 25 second penalty for his battle with Kimi Raikkonen in the final stages of the Belgian Grand Prix, this obviously effects the final outcome of the race. The added 25 seconds puts Hamilton back to third, and promotes Felipe Massa and Nick Heidfeld up the order to first and second respectively. In terms of championships, Massa is now closer to Hamilton in the title fight (just 2 points separates them), and Raikkonen isn’t as far behind as he previously was. Continue Reading

As Ago has just pointed out in the previous post, Lewis Hamilton has been handed a 25s penalty for cutting the chicane while battling with Kimi Raikkonen for the lead of the race. The penalty, which is a drive-thru after the completion of the race, means 25 seconds is added to Hamilton’s overall time and demotes the Briton to third behind Felipe Massa and Nick Heidfeld. Needless to say, I don’t think McLaren are too happy about this. Continue Reading

They say Spa Francorchamps has it’s own little micro-climate, throwing up surprising weather conditions and playing havoc with the teams and drivers. And that is exactly what happened during the Belgian Grand Prix today, as incidents were plentiful in the build up to the final lap. On the track, it was Lewis Hamilton who took the win, followed by Massa and Heidfeld. Raikkonen retired with an accident in the wet weather and Heidfeld had an epic final lap to get onto the podium. What a sensational race! Lewis Hamilton has won the Belgian Grand Prix after a lot of confusion towards the end - the rain started to fall and overtaking was plentiful. Although Hamilton took to the podium, the stewards are looking into a move between the McLaren driver and Kimi Raikkonen. Hamilton ran wide going through the final corner and skipped over the run-off. He allowed Raikkonen to re-take the lead before passing again later in the lap. For now, here’s the result, but I’ll update when a decision from the stewards is known. Continue Reading

The McLarens line up on the Spa Francorchamps grid one directly in front of the other, as do the Ferraris of Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen. Lewis Hamilton claimed the pole position by some margin, while Heikki Kovalainen displaced Raikkonen with his last gasp attempt in Q3. Felipe Massa splits the McLarens while Kimi rests in fourth, once again. Both Scuderia Toro Rossos completed the top ten and Fernando Alonso will be looking for a decent points finish as he slides in behind Nick Heidfeld, settling for fifth and sixth respectively. Lewis Hamilton has stormed to pole position at Spa Francorchamps, putting himself in the best possible position for tomorrow’s Belgian Grand Prix. Fellow McLaren driver Heikki Kovalainen lines up drectly behind his team mate in third while a good run from Felipe Massa netted him second. Kimi Raikkonen couldn’t do much better than fourth and will be staring at the rear wing of Massa’s Ferrari on the grid. Both Scuderia Toro Rossos once again made it into Q3 and took nineth and tenth. Both Ferraris have topped the timing sheets at Belgium’s Spa Francorchamps circuit, set in the Ardennes Forest. It was Felipe Massa who got the upper-hand and led his team mate Kimi Raikkonen for most of the session. Sliding in to third and fourth were both McLarens, Lewis Hamilton edging out Heikki Kovalainen, but lapping some 0.6s off Massa’s pace. Of the top four, it was Hamilton who made the most noticeable error, taking to the gravel at Les Combes as well as losing time at La Source on what was meant to be an improved lap. Continue Reading
