For months the future of the Australian Grand Prix has been in doubt with Bernie Ecclestone demanding more money and a night-time start for the Melbourne race. However it has been finally annnounced that Albert Park has been granted a five-year extension to its current contract which was due to expire in 2010. The new deal will see the State of Victoria host the Australian Grand Prix until at least 2015 at its lake-side circuit. Continue Reading

The news from Australia is that Albert Park in Melbourne has managed to come to an agreement with Bernie Ecclestone to extend the contract they have for the Australian Grand Prix. In recent months the race had come under increasing threats of being moved away from the track and possibly even the country if another venue couldn’t be found. However, newspapers are reporting that a five-year extension has been verbally agreed and this also include the abolishment of the night-race plan. Continue Reading

A few stories have emerged this Monday morning, but the most important one surrounds Heikki Kovalainen, who has spent the night in hospital, but is absolutely fine. Also making headlines today are Australia, who are contemplating the future of Formula One in their country. And I’ll finish off this quick round-up with a humorous line from David Coulthard, uttered to the media after his incident with Timo Glock in yesterday’s Spanish Grand Prix. Continue Reading

The 2008 Australian Grand Prix couldn’t have been much better in terms of on-track action and excitement. The drama didn’t end at the chequered flag either, as Rubens Barrichello was under investigation for leaving the pitlane when he shouldn’t have. Also being punished after race is Kazuki Nakajima, reprimanded for his incident with third-place finisher Nico Rosberg. Here are a few more thoughts on the season opener in Australia. The first race of the season is over and the best script-writers on the planet couldn’t have done a better job. In what can only be described as the first day back at school for most drivers, we saw spins, coming-togethers, random retirements and even swearing on live TV. The 2008 Australian Grand Prix made for a fascinating race and the true pace of all the cars is now much clearer. Continue Reading

For those brave enough to stay up until the unearthly hours of the morning, or to those who wisely got some shut-eye earlier in the day, here are a few updates to take note of during the upcoming Australian Grand Prix. Continue Reading

The FIA have again tweaked qualifying. Instead of splitting the three sessions equally into 15 minute phases, they have now added 5 minutes to phase one (Q1) and deducted 5 minutes from phase three (Q3). The reason behind this change is aimed at reducing the fuel-burning phase that happened in Q3 last season. However, the FIA are attempting to solve the problem with the wrong solution and Q3 was a great disappointment for me earlier today. Continue Reading

Lewis Hamilton starts his 2008 championship campaign in the best possible position, having secured pole position for tomorrow’s race around the Albert Park lake. In what was an eventful session that saw an early exit for reigning world champion Kimi Raikkonen, the final ten minute dash turned out to be quite the anti-climax. I’ll save the discussion of the new qualifying format for another post, so let’s go through the field and see how they all did. Continue Reading
