Australia Finally Gets New Grand Prix Deal

For months the future of the Australian Grand Prix has been in doubt with Bernie Ecclestone demanding more money and a night-time start for the Melbourne race. However it has been finally annnounced that Albert Park has been granted a five-year extension to its current contract which was due to expire in 2010. The new deal will see the State of Victoria host the Australian Grand Prix until at least 2015 at its lake-side circuit. Continue Reading

Albert Park Set For New Australian Grand Prix Contract

The news from Australia is that Albert Park in Melbourne has managed to come to an agreement with Bernie Ecclestone to extend the contract they have for the Australian Grand Prix. In recent months the race had come under increasing threats of being moved away from the track and possibly even the country if another venue couldn’t be found. However, newspapers are reporting that a five-year extension has been verbally agreed and this also include the abolishment of the night-race plan. Continue Reading

Sydney Offers Night Race To Count Bernie

2007 Australian Grand PrixMelbourne, Victoria - current hosts of the Australian Grand Prix - have been in the wars recently. Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has been firing off threats like there’s no tomorrow, claiming that the only way for the Australian Grand Prix to continue is if it is held at night. The main idea behind the strategy for Ecclestone is that a race in Australia at night would be broadcast live to those living in Europe at prime-time. However, Australian race promoters have said no. The race has been put back by 1.5 hours for 2008, and it has also been suggested it could go as far back as 5pm local time for 2009. But Ecclestone doesn’t appear to be entirely happy about this. Phillip Island Proposal For F1 Race

Phillip Island CircuitSpeculation is rife at the moment regarding the Australian Grand Prix. It was recently announced that the circuit has made great losses with the Formula One event, and organiser chairman Ron Walker has apparently held discussions to see if a more suitable venue would be better. The Albert Park circuit has always drawn a large crowd, although this mainly be because Australia has hosted the first round of the championship in recent years. However, with these losses, Walker has proposed the event be moved to Flemington Racecourse. And while all this was grabbing the headlines, Phillip Island circuit boss has chimed in with his own suggestion. Continue Reading
