Posted on November 1st, 2008 by Oliver White

The grid has been decided for the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix, and with the times as close as ever in the first two stages, it was Felipe Massa who took the pole position on home soil. Fellow title contender Lewis Hamilton will start the race from fourth with Jarno Trulli and Kimi Raikkonen separating the pair. The crowds cheered Massa over the line as the Ferrari driver took his third successive pole position at Interlagos. But as they say, qualifying is one thing, racing is another… Continue Reading…

What BlogF1 Readers Need To Watch Formula One

Posted on November 1st, 2008 by Oliver White

A few days ago I posted a question to Identi.ca and Twitter, asking followers what they couldn’t follow Formula One without. The responses came in thick and fast and while the original intention was to post just ten things, I quickly realised that would no longer suffice. So while we all prepare for qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix, I thought I’d share what many of you guys and gals need to follow the sport. As always, feel free to add your own in the comments… Continue Reading…

The Canadian Grand Prix Is Not Completely Dead, Yet

Posted on October 22nd, 2008 by Oliver White

After the Canadian Grand Prix was rudely dropped from the 2009 calendar, the world gasped in horror at the largest automobile market on the planet not having the opportunity to showcase the very sport that the car manufacturers invest in. The North American fanbase were appalled, and I personally was disgusted at not only losing a great track, but also the way in which the cancellation had apparently been handled. However, it would appear that not all is lost for next season… Continue Reading…

Posted on October 19th, 2008 by Oliver White

With a high level of confidence and domination, Lewis Hamilton took victory today in the Chinese Grand Prix. After a storming drive that left Ferrari demoralised, the McLaren driver has managed to extend his hopes of becoming world champion as the title goes down to the wire in Brazil in a fortnight. Both Ferrari pilots were on the podium while Heikki Kovalainen eventually retired from the race with brake issues. Fernando Alonso finished where he qualified in fourth. Continue Reading…

Lewis Hamilton has again stormed to pole position, this time at the Shanghai circuit in China. Beating both Ferraris to the top position, the McLaren driver was fastest in all three qualifying sessions. Lewis Hamilton’s Reading List: ‘How To Make Friends & Influence People’

Posted on October 15th, 2008 by Oliver White

Last year, Lewis Hamilton came under a little fire for the way he started grands prix. His method of moving across the circuit to defend his position and better enable himself to creep by other drivers into the first corner was compared greatly to Michael Schumacher’s. The multiple world champion was often criticised for his starting technique, and since the Japanese Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton has come under similar fire from his fellow drivers. Continue Reading…

Fuji 2008: Two Wins On The Trot For Fernando Alonso

Posted on October 12th, 2008 by Oliver White

Fernando Alonso has won his second race in succession, taking victory at the Fuji Speedway this afternoon and underlying the supreme effort the team have done to improve the R28. There was a little bit of luck on Alonso’s side but the fact that the Spaniard qualified fourth, held onto the fastest lap for half the race and went on to win shows that his influence on the squad is paying off once again. Fuji 2008: Hamilton Storms To Japanese Pole Position

Posted on October 11th, 2008 by Oliver White

Lewis Hamilton has taken pole position for the Japanese Grand Prix, fending off strong advances from Ferrari and Kimi Raikkonen. The Scuderia didn’t have a great qualifying session and it was thanks to Raikkonen’s sudden improvement that the team aren’t completely out of contention. Massa qualified down in fifth while Heikki Kovalainen claimed third after a great final run. Fernando Alonso will start the race in fourth and Robert Kubica managed sixth in his BMW. The Secret Diary Of A Formula One Blogger: Part I

Posted on October 10th, 2008 by Oliver White

Last week I came to the realisation that I spend a lot of time on BlogF1. I think I’ve said this before, but it’s worth repeating: The site is essentially an extension of myself. My personality, thoughts and opinions. It is where I learn, where I inform and most importantly, it is where I have fun. So with Japan being a difficult weekend to cover (I’m in Europe), I thought I’d share with you all what I do and how I do it. For the next two days, I will be keeping a public diary. They Haven’t Worked For Ferrari, But That Hasn’t Stopped Honda Developing Pitstop Lights

Posted on October 10th, 2008 by Oliver White

Despite Ferrari’s pitstop lighting system having let the team down on two occasions thus far, Honda are testing a similar system with the view of running it next season. Like with Ferrari, the lights hang from a gantry above the driver during a pitstop and indicate when it is safe to to leave the box and continue with the race. Although Ferrari haven’t had much luck with them, Ross Brawn believes the lights are safer than the traditional lollipop. Continue Reading…
