For the last 12 years or so, Ferrari have adopted a strategy for the championship campaign that has seen them win seven constructors titles and six drivers titles. The success of Michael Schumacher in the team as well as employing many of Formula One’s most talented personnel has brought almost unprecedented domination over the sport. Although this domination has wained a little in recent years, it is without doubt that Ferrari’s tactic of backing one driver worked. Continue Reading…

Felipe Massa has once again outlined to his rivals that he can race superbly well by winning the European Grand Prix in dominant style. After claiming pole position yesterday, Massa drove well all afternoon, but an error in the pitlane could see the Brazilian penalised later this evening. Lewis Hamilton didn’t really have an answer for the pace of the Ferrari and came home second, and Robert Kubica returned to the podium with a fine third-place finish for BMW. Continue Reading…

Felipe Massa has claimed the first pole position at the new Valencia circuit in Spain. Following an interesting qualifying which saw some topsy-turvy times for some of the session, Massa came out as fastest as he managed to get ahead of Lewis Hamilton on his final lap. The other Ferrari driver, Kimi Raikkonen, didn’t enjoy qualifying as much and could only get his F2008 into fourth and was 0.5s shy of his Brazilian rival. Continue Reading…

Every four years or so, usually when the British summer kicks it up a notch and the rain arrives, I end up having the same debate in my head, normally with the same outcome. However, four years ago BlogF1 did not exist, so I guess this time I can open up the conversation to others and hear what you think. The question I ask myself is this: Should motor sport be incorporated into the modern Olympic Games? Continue Reading…

The 2008 season has been fairly dramatic so far, and we’ve seen some superb races and will undoubtedly see some more before the year is out. There is also little surprise that Ferrari and McLaren are heading the constructor’s tables with BMW close behind in third. However, some teams have made leaps and bounds over their previous form and competitors, while others appear to have stood still or even moved backwards. Continue Reading…

We may have only just passed the mid-way point of the 2008 season, but already the majority of next season’s grid has been organised. And in now typical Formula One tradition, there are too many drivers vying for too few seats. Let’s take a quick look at the 2009 grid and assess the choices the teams have made as they attempt to better their operation prior to next season’s Australian Grand Prix in March.. Continue Reading…

Heikki Kovalainen has taken his very first race win as the Hungarian Grand Prix threw up several surprises during the 70-lap grand prix. From the start it looked as though Felipe Massa would be the eventual winner having passed both McLaren’s into turn one on the first lap. However, with just three laps to go the Ferrari engine in Massa’s F2008 let go and the Brazilian was forced to retire. Kovalainen, who was chasing in second, was promoted to victor while Hamilton languished in fifth. Continue Reading…

Lewis Hamilton has taken pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix, charging his McLaren around the Hungaroring in style and beating his team mate by 0.241s. Heikki Kovalainen locked out the front row for the Woking team with impressive style. McLaren appear to beack on pace now and Ferrari are struggling slightly. Felipe Massa managed to get third and didn’t look too off-pace, but Kimi Raikkonen once again had a troubled qualifying and only managed sixth in his F2008. Continue Reading…

The Formula One team bosses met at Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters yesterday to discuss the future of the sport and it’s immediate concern regarding the Concorde Agreement - a document that outlines the commercial and financial rewards from competing in Formula One. Along with representatives from each of the ten teams, Bernie Ecclestone and CVC managing partner Donald McKenzie were also present. One result from the talks is the creation of a new association.
