How Do You Watch Formula One?

Posted on August 2nd, 2008 by Oliver White

Having set up my desk for the Hungarian Grand Prix, I got thinking if I was the only one who organises the room around the grand prix whenever the cars take to the track. Below is a photo (excuse my lack of photography skills) which shows how my desk looked as the build-up to the qualifying started. It primarily includes my MacBook Pro, which is obviously essential for blogging to BlogF1, joining in with the LiveBlog and following Formula One Live Timing. Due to the limited space on the 15″ MacBook screen, I also utilise a separate 22″ Dell monitor (which was one of the best things I ever bought). I also rotate my TV slightly so I can see it from the desk. Continue Reading…

An Update & Explanation

Posted on July 21st, 2008 by Oliver White

Last week I essentially closed BlogF1 and posted a note to the top of all pages on the site. The message is still there as I type this, but for future reference, it basically says that I am on hiatus until August. I appreciate however, that no explanation or reason was given, and for those who regularly read BlogF1 but do not necessarily know me, that may have seemed strange and probably turned you off from re-visiting. So, with things getting better, I hope you will allow me to briefly explain. Continue Reading…

Formula One Versus…

Posted on July 14th, 2008 by Oliver White

Over the years Formula One teams have pitched their cars against some of the world’s most formiddable, and on occasion, fiercesome machines. The most common battle is associated with the car manufacturers who supply engines to the motor sporting world, and these companies will sometimes race an F1 car against a fast road-going car and a small hatch-back or similar. Let’s take a look at some of the vehicles Formula One drivers have found themselves racing against. Continue Reading…

McLaren Invite The Neighbours Around Again

Posted on July 4th, 2008 by Oliver White

Following on from their successful attempts of neightbourly love at the Spanish Grand Prix earlier in the year, McLaren have once again welcomed their next-door neighbours over for tea and cakes. The last time the Woking team did this was when they were positioned at the far end of the pitlane next to Force India and Super Aguri, but as they have now been moved back to the fifth garage, they decided to invite Red Bull Racing and Williams around for brew and a biscuit. Continue Reading…

Timo Glock vs. The Dark Knight

Posted on July 4th, 2008 by Oliver White

As reported a few days ago, Toyota have joined forces with the makers of The Dark Knight to help promote the latest Batman film at the British Grand Prix. The Batman crew brought with them the latest Batmobile and the new Batpod which both feature in the new film, due for global release later this month. Of course, it was smiles all round as Timo Glock toured the track with the six-wheeled monster next to him and Jarno Trulli got to sit on an altogether different kind of motorbike. Continue Reading…

Why Hamilton Should Do The Triathlon With Button

Posted on July 3rd, 2008 by Oliver White

An interesting story from the British Grand Prix (and bearing in mind it is only Thursday) is a challenge from Jenson Button to fellow British driver Lewis Hamilton. Apparently Hamilton recently found out about Button’s triathlon endeavors and was impressed with his rival’s placing - Jenson finished 117th out of 1700 participants in last month’s Windsor event. An exchange of words in today’s press conference ahead of the race on Sunday led to a challenge being put forward by Jenson, and initially it was agreed by Lewis. Continue Reading…

Toyota To Take On The Dark Knight At Silverstone

Posted on July 1st, 2008 by Oliver White

In recent years Formula One teams have joined forces with Hollywood to help promote their latest offerings from the big screen. Red Bull have in the past, promoted Superman at Monaco, and before them Jaguar did one of the Ocean’s films, Twelve, I think. And now Toyota are joining in by promoting the lastest Batman film, due to hit European cinemas later in the month and expected to be a high-grossing blockbuster movie. Continue Reading…

Chicken Soup & A Neck Brace For Felipe Massa

Posted on June 27th, 2008 by Oliver White

It would appear that Felipe Massa has caught the silly injury bug from Juan Pablo Montoya as well as a proper bug which will require him to rest prior to the British Grand Prix next weekend. Over the French Grand Prix weekend last week, it became known that Massa was carrying a small injury to his neck, and now the poor chap has the flu. Still, at least the Brazilian driver managed a win at Magny Cours and tested well on Tuesday at Silverstone. Continue Reading…

Why Drivers Take Their Hands Off The Wheel In An Accident

Posted on June 26th, 2008 by Oliver White

During yesterday’s pre-British Grand Prix test at Silverstone, Giancarlo Fisichella suffered a fairly sizable impact at the Becketts Complex in his Force India. While testing out some modifications to the car, it would seem as though the Italian was caught by a strong gust of wind that unstabilised the car and led to an impact with the barrier. Fisichella was taken to hospital for checks, and although the previous grand prix winner said he was fine, the medics paid particular attention to his wrists: Giancarlo did not take his hands off the steering wheel. Gemma Garrett: The Face Of The 2008 British Grand Prix

Posted on June 20th, 2008 by Oliver White

This isn’t exactly news, but for some reason that is currently beyond me, each year Silverstone announce a female face for the British Grand Prix. This face is usually attached to a body that generally fits in with the model stereotype. Last year TV star and model Gemma Atkinson took on the role and considered a variety of poses on a Spyker F1 car. For 2008, it is someone called Gemma Garrett who was recently photographed draped over a Force India. Continue Reading…
