Following on from their successful attempts of neightbourly love at the Spanish Grand Prix earlier in the year, McLaren have once again welcomed their next-door neighbours over for tea and cakes. The last time the Woking team did this was when they were positioned at the far end of the pitlane next to Force India and Super Aguri, but as they have now been moved back to the fifth garage, they decided to invite Red Bull Racing and Williams around for brew and a biscuit. As reported a few days ago, Toyota have joined forces with the makers of The Dark Knight to help promote the latest Batman film at the British Grand Prix. The Batman crew brought with them the latest Batmobile and the new Batpod which both feature in the new film, due for global release later this month. Of course, it was smiles all round as Timo Glock toured the track with the six-wheeled monster next to him and Jarno Trulli got to sit on an altogether different kind of motorbike. Continue Reading…

An interesting story from the British Grand Prix (and bearing in mind it is only Thursday) is a challenge from Jenson Button to fellow British driver Lewis Hamilton. Apparently Hamilton recently found out about Button’s triathlon endeavors and was impressed with his rival’s placing - Jenson finished 117th out of 1700 participants in last month’s Windsor event. An exchange of words in today’s press conference ahead of the race on Sunday led to a challenge being put forward by Jenson, and initially it was agreed by Lewis. Continue Reading…

In recent years Formula One teams have joined forces with Hollywood to help promote their latest offerings from the big screen. Red Bull have in the past, promoted Superman at Monaco, and before them Jaguar did one of the Ocean’s films, Twelve, I think. And now Toyota are joining in by promoting the lastest Batman film, due to hit European cinemas later in the month and expected to be a high-grossing blockbuster movie. Continue Reading…

It would appear that Felipe Massa has caught the silly injury bug from Juan Pablo Montoya as well as a proper bug which will require him to rest prior to the British Grand Prix next weekend. Over the French Grand Prix weekend last week, it became known that Massa was carrying a small injury to his neck, and now the poor chap has the flu. Still, at least the Brazilian driver managed a win at Magny Cours and tested well on Tuesday at Silverstone. Continue Reading…

During yesterday’s pre-British Grand Prix test at Silverstone, Giancarlo Fisichella suffered a fairly sizable impact at the Becketts Complex in his Force India. While testing out some modifications to the car, it would seem as though the Italian was caught by a strong gust of wind that unstabilised the car and led to an impact with the barrier. Fisichella was taken to hospital for checks, and although the previous grand prix winner said he was fine, the medics paid particular attention to his wrists: Giancarlo did not take his hands off the steering wheel. This isn’t exactly news, but for some reason that is currently beyond me, each year Silverstone announce a female face for the British Grand Prix. This face is usually attached to a body that generally fits in with the model stereotype. Last year TV star and model Gemma Atkinson took on the role and considered a variety of poses on a Spyker F1 car. For 2008, it is someone called Gemma Garrett who was recently photographed draped over a Force India. Continue Reading…

Earlier this week it had been reported on a variety of websites that Lewis Hamilton had purchased himself a very special number plate for his car. The rumoured sequence of letters and numbers had been LEW 1S, obviously spelling out his forename in number-plate language. Many top websites had reported the story - news has been a bit thin this week - including, according to Pitpass, ITV-F1. However, Hamilton has dismissed the story, claiming he had not heard of anything of this story until he was asked about it in the Magny Cours paddock this afternoon. Continue Reading…

Prior to the 2008 season-start last March, the FIA announced changes to the fees for the super license, a requirement for all competing drivers in FIA organised motor sports. In 2007, Kimi Raikkonen would have had to hand over €51,805, made up of a flat fee of €1,725 plus a further €456 per point earned. However, the FIA have increased these costs to €10,000 and €2,000 per point, increasing the overall cost for Kimi to an estimated €230,000. Needless to say, the drivers aren’t too happy about this. Honda driver Jenson Button has exceeded his own expectations when he competed in the Windsor Triathlon last weekend. The British driver has shown interest in the multi-disciplined sport recently and had a target time for completing the event of 2 hours, 30 minutes. As Button crossed the line in Windsor’s Great Park at the end of the 10km run, his time was 2 hours, 22 minutes and 43 seconds. Jenson’s physiotherapist, Mike Collier, also competed and followed his driver home twelve minutes later. Continue Reading…
