Spain 2009: Fantasy Racers Update
A mixed result from the Fantasy Racers competition this time around, with some teams doing well and making up places while others doing less well and losing ground. No changes were made to the teams after Bahrain but after the Fins and Italians retired en masse (or finished in last place) perhaps I should have created a team centred around Britain, Brazil, Germany and Australia. As we can see from the table, BlogF1 Racing again did well thanks to a one-two from Brawn today, Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello collecting a combined total of 422 for the team. Sebastian Vettel performed okay as did Nico Rosberg, which left the team in 1006th for the Spanish Grand Prix and improves them to 1061st overall. In the Sidepodcast League, BF1R are in 150th.
Inner Pickle Racing are also continuing to run well, again having both the Brawn drivers onboard is doing them no harm whatsoever, and also having the two Germans of Vettel and Glock is also proving useful. IPR scored 659 points in Spain as opposed to the 677 of BF1R. In fact, IPR now move ahead of Mr. C’s Longitudinal Inertia team in the Sidepodcast League, P245 vs. P221. [Insert smile here.]
Rather embarrassingly, the Italians and the Fins performed terribly in Spain for Team Finitalia, with only Giancarlo Fisichella finishing the race. The least said about that the better, I think. PETN did okay but Blogger’s Dog Racing lost positions from the last race and went from an overall 2013th after Bahrain to 2424th after Spain. Some changes are on the way for these squads, me thinks.
Fantasy Racers is a fantasy Formula One competition. It is free to sign up but if you wish to have more than team you will need to make a donation to the site. You can also join private leagues, and currently BlogF1’s set of squads race in the Sidepodcast League.

One of my teams made it onto one of the overall record tables for the race.
Unfortunately it was because LCM Barato was the ninth-biggest faller in the game. I had seven drivers, of which three didn’t finish and the other four were the last four across the finishing line…

Just the last three races: 645, 641 and 677.

To be fair, Barato is one of three automated teams I have in my collection of five. It automatically has whoever are the cheapest drivers in the system at any given time (the other two, LCM Caro and LCM Aléman, have the most expensive and the most German drivers respectively). Usually it scores quite well simply through force of numbers. In Australia it did spectacularly well because it had both Brawn drivers in on account of their values. It was just that this race was a bit of a disaster. When I realised the four in the list had crossed in exactly the last four positions, I found it quite a funny coincidence – even though, as a Fisichella supporter, I would have been a lot happier if he hadn’t been the last of the four (stupid fuel rig…)
To be fair, the LCM Dragons team, which is the one based entirely on who I think will do well in each race, is thriving, being inside the top 100 in the Sidepodcast league. (I tend not to pay attention to my overall league position).

I set up a team after the Bahrain Grand Prix that i had completely forgotten about until you published this entry.
My quartet managed to gross a substantial haul of 606 points yesterday. Scuderia Wildman are not quite the match of BlogF1 Racing, however.

I bageed 726 points yesterday, and somehow *still* went down in the league…. Its not as if I was originally in the top ten or anything either, the competition is just *that* good.
Oh well, at least I’m giving you a sound drubbing :p

Hey Ollie -
To give some perspective of how poorly Team Finitalia is doing, consider this:
Team Finitalia has done 5 races. Three of my squads (all of which have only participated in three races) are actually ahead of Finitalia! One of them is my Sebastia/en team; another is my Germany team, the last is my Brawn-centered team.
Another note – I revised one of my teams to be a Brazilian team this weekend.

Most of my teams are automated, now that I think about it. I have ten teams
1. BMW + Ferrari
2. Another BMW + Ferrari, but with more leftover budget (I call this my “revitalised” team.
3. 7 cheapest drivers
4. 7 cheapest drivers, but this team is an experiment with the stock market. I choose the drivers that seems to be rising in value, then the day before the weekend I sell them and get the 7 cheapest drivers.
5. 3 Sebastia/ens + good stock market values
6. A Brawn-centered team + usually Vettel
7. Germany team
8. Brazil team
Well, you get the point…

Another note Ollie – you should congratulate yourself as being one of the first to realize that Pentaerithrytol Tetranitrate was a flat failure back in the days when it had Hamilton, Kimi, and Massa. I saw that there still are some 8 teams with that exact lineup.

If you had retained FIS for this race (for BF1R), you would’ve had 677 + 72 – 1 = 748 pts! Wow!
Why don’t you sell SUT and ROS and buy Webber? Then you’d have a perfect Brawn + RBR lineup!
