BlogF1: 2008 Season Review Update
Believe it or not, BlogF1 has never done a season review before, or at least to the best of my memory I have never looked back at the championship in written form. There is a very good reason for this, which I will get to later in this post, but for 2008, I thought I would give it a go. As many of you will be aware, I started off well with Super Aguri, and then Force India, Honda and Williams, but I quickly realised I wasn’t enjoying it. So this post is to explain further why the review posts have ceased, and this will also act as a prelude to another post due to be published today.
The reason why I’ve never reviewed a Formula One season before is simple – it’s already been written. For as long as BlogF1 has been in existence, the races have been reported on, the results published and conversation welcomed after each grand prix (aside from the missed ones due to holidays etc…). For a thorough review of 2006, 2007 and 2008, you need only to look through the archives to find the many hundreds of posts written about the championships. So when it comes to the end of the year, aside from usually feeling pretty exhausted, I also feel regurgitating content meaningless.
It is also worth noting that many bloggers out there actually do season reviews very well, and cover new angles they missed during the campaign itself. They include extra detail, more thought and generally wrap up the year excellently. I see no reason in mimicking these bloggers – they do it better than me and I feel there is only so much content-duplication readers can stand.
Therefore, the 2008 BlogF1 Season Review series has ended, but there is one post that was (mostly) pre-written and will be published shortly…

Good for you, Ollie – I like a man who knows what he does well and sticks to it. Also, it sorta confirms my own approach to blogging F1 – I do reviews when I feel like it, at any time of the year and, usually, just one or two teams that happen to have caught my notice at the time. In other words, I blog what I want, when I want.
That means that this year I did a driver rating list – last year I rated the teams instead. Next year there might be no ratings at all or I might rate the team managers’ dress sense – who knows?
And that is what blogging is about, really. It’s supposed to be a weblog, a diary of thoughts and events, and so it must inevitably follow the thoughts of the writer, whether seasonal, trendy, topical or none of the above. It’s a one-man show and the star is… you!

Now I’m a little less busy you might see me cropping up in the comments with some regularity – I’ve been away from some of the F1 sites for too long…
