[...] Au Revoir, Montreal - “What are the FIA running here, a joke of an organisation? They didn’t even privately inform the organisers a couple of hours in advance of the statement. No fax, telephone call, not even an email. That is insane. And the FIA want to do business with these people, make money and provide racing, yet they are not even capable of delivering basic respect to the companies that provide the FIA and FOM with the facilities to run the sport. It would be like turning up to work one Friday and your boss telling you that this is your last day because he/she neglected to tell you four weeks ago that the notice period had begun. It’s just plain wrong.” [...]

Well dang Oliver it was just weeks ago we were guessing on where Bernie would build a new track in the US and instead Bernie slapped North America in the face. Living in So. Cal (USA) the Canada race is the only race that most of us get to attend. So my question to Bernie, Max and the powers to be, why should we still support F1. My answer would be I am loyal to F1 and the drivers not Bernie and Max, but that might not be how all F1 fans feel. No matter what happens, people in the US will still buy all the Ferrari's, BMW's and Mercedes that come hear, but it would be nice to have one of them stand up for the fans of F1 and hit Bernie wear it counts, his wallet. I know that will not happen so we just hope the senile b@@&^%% will come to his sences and put North America back on the schedule or the best possible solution RETIRE.

This will not go down well with F1 fans and is just another stage of the downward spiral of the sport.

I think it is such a shame that the sport's fans feel compelled to write things like that. A truly great shame. But sometimes, it is necessary because it is true.

I owe you one for the mention!

I owe you one for the emails - thank you! By the way, I'll probably respond this weekend when I get five minutes. Things have been a bit hectic in Ollie-land these past few weeks, but I think it's all coming together again.

unprofessional

That was the word I was looking for. Thanks Steven, I can now sleep tonight. :)

For the organisers not even to get an hint of a warning shows the moral fibre that the sport now has as its leaders

I agree. It seems they just don't care and consider themselves above any one and any thing.

For the organisers not even to get an hint of a warning shows the moral fibre that the sport now has as its leaders, I thought it was bad enough when they butchered Hockenheim, but to drop such an excellant circuit without even telling them is beyond belief, I swoar to myself years ago `the day they drop Spa is the day I sell all my F1 memrobelia and turn my back on it all`.

The loss of Canada is unblievable and the manner in which it was done is disgusting, unprofessional and unnecessary.

Apart from all the things that have been said before the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is the ideal showcase for KERS. If you were going to design a track to suit KERS it would be Montreal. While I couldn't care less about KERS I would hate to see Montreal go. There are many tracks I would quickly forget about if the fell off the calendar an unfortunately these are the tracks Bernie favours.

Very well done Ollie- I owe you one for the mention!!

I read today that the teams are pushing to keep the event in 2009, and hopefully this will play out. I have been considering making the trip up there for this coming season, but have been waiting to see what happens with the USGP situation in 2010 before booking any plans, so now I am just one of many fans left hanging out to dry.

I diden't mean to completely rip Bernie in my statement above, because he dose do some things in a very good manner. When FOM had the North American doubleheader going it was a very good deal for many reasons. First, it came towards the midpoint of the season and the championship was going long enough to have some cearly-defined leaders, but was not quite far enough along to have many teams and drivers out of the running. Second, fans in both nations got to see a GP on TV at their local time either before or after their home event. And the concept worked to a good extent- both races were always full with 100,000-plus, even after the Indy debacle in '05.

Now, niether race is set for 2009, and there are a huge number of us here across the Atlantic who don't have a race within easy travel distance to attend. But the most suprising thing to me was that this comes just a few weeks after the meeting at Spa between Bernie and the team principles- not only did I take that to be a fantastic sign that Bernie was looking back to America, but in his interview on the grid with Peter Windsor of SPEED, Bernie was in a relatively good mood about America- a welcomed change from some of the less memorable comments he had made about the U.S. in the past. But now the treatment of the Canadian GP seems to reverse that logic, and not only dose it place the future of the Montreal event in serious jeopardy, but it also makes a return/debut for any U.S. venue all the less likley, since they now have no partner to pair up with on travel expenses.

Sorry for the long rant here, but in closing I hope that FOM will pull their head out of the sand and get back to doing a good business here in North America- many of us are misisng out, and there is no doubt that the powerbrokers of F1 can do a bang-up job if they just lift a few fingers and put some support behind a few races here

What a horrid little man B. Eccleston is to have done away with the Montreal event. Whatever problems he might have with the promoter certainly could have been resolved. But no, rather than work toward some sort of mutual solution, his Napoleonic complex kicks in and Montreal is no longer on the calendar. This will not go down well with F1 fans and is just another stage of the downward spiral of the sport. Shame on you both Berne & Max.
