The sixty-second photograph to feature in BlogF1’s caption contest. You know the drill, think of something funny and witty to say and leave it as a comment below. Apologies for being a little late this week, but here we have a press conference with Heikki Kovalainen of McLaren and Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing. But what could Webber be whispering into Heikki’s ear…? Continue Reading…

With one week to go before the title showdown commences in Brazil, I was wondering where Formula One fans will be watching the grand prix from. Given that the race is on at about 5pm UK time, many Brits may be out and about on a Sunday afternoon and may not be in their usual place for spot of motor sport action. Maybe your local pub will be showing the event live, or maybe you’ll be at home watching in front of the television? Or will you be in South America watching the race live from an Interlagos grandstand? Continue Reading…

Civil courts in Modena have announced that the Ferrari team were on the receiving end of a sabotage plot just prior to the 2007 Monaco Grand Prix. At the time, then-employee Nigel Stepney was seen in an tightly controlled area of the factory loitering around the Ferrari cars that were due to be sent to the Principality for the race. A white powder was then found in the fuel tanks of the cars, which sparked a thorough investigation and eventually, Stepney’s job and McLaren’s reputation took a substantial hit. Continue Reading…

British newspaper The Daily Express are reporting that former team owner Eddie Jordan could be about to make a comeback to Formula One, the Irish businessman being linked with the BBC as part of their 2009 commentary and broadcast team. The BBC have been very tight-lipped about their line-up for their 2009 return, with Martin Brundle and David Coulthard expected to take up roles amid speculation that the FIA are trying to block Brundle’s move. The FIA and new association FOTA met on Tuesday in Geneva to discuss proposed changes to Formula One’s future direction. The talks came about after FIA president Max Mosley continued to whittle on about saving money and making the motor racing series more single-spec, notably the engines. FOTA sent Luca di Montezemolo and John Howett to represent the association and the response is said to have been positive. Continue Reading…

After the Canadian Grand Prix was rudely dropped from the 2009 calendar, the world gasped in horror at the largest automobile market on the planet not having the opportunity to showcase the very sport that the car manufacturers invest in. The North American fanbase were appalled, and I personally was disgusted at not only losing a great track, but also the way in which the cancellation had apparently been handled. However, it would appear that not all is lost for next season… Continue Reading…

The sixty-first photograph to feature in BlogF1’s caption contest. You know the drill, think of something funny and witty to say and leave it as a comment below. Here we have a shot of Mario Theissen and Sebastian Vettel at the 2007 US Grand Prix. It was Vettel’s debut race has he substituted a recovering Robert Kubica, and although the German was just shy of 20 years old, BMW team bosses had faith in the youngster which was proven with a eighth place finish; Vettel became the youngest point scorer in the sport’s history. About two weeks ago, the FIA announced via the press that the Canadian Grand Prix had been dropped from the 2009 Formula One World Championship, causing an uproar among fans the world over, particularly those residing in North America. The continent and major motor-industry market have lost a key race, especially so given that there is no USGP at the current time. But the reported nature of the way the race was dropped has started a war of words between the Grand Prix du Canada organisation at the FIA and FOM. Continue Reading…

McLaren’s Ron Dennis has stated that despite the concern over recent measures to reduce costs and their impact on the rules and regulations that govern Formula One, a collaboration between themselves, Mercedes-Benz and Force India may still go ahead. It was revealed at the Japanese Grand Prix that negotiations between the organisations were at an advanced stage, which could result in Force India receiving a customer car and technical support from McLaren. With the final race of 2008 just two weeks away, I thought I would give everybody some time to assess the current championship standings, and then offer opinion as to who they believe will be the 2008 Formula One World Champion. The comments will be open as usual, and there is a voting form at the bottom of this article. So take a look through the numbers, think about the drivers and their teams, and then let everyone know what you think will be the outcome of the Brazilian Grand Prix. Continue Reading…
