  • Monza 2008: Race Result

After 22 starts and at the very tender age of just 21, Sebastian Vettel has dominated the Italian Grand Prix to win in changeable conditions and give the rest of the field a damn good thrashing. From start to finish, the youngest ever winner of a Formula One grand prix gave everyone else a driving lesson as the sport revels in the delights of a star in the making. From Minardi obscurity to Scuderia Toro Rosso success, the team and driver worked beautifully to produce one the most thoroughly deserved victories in a very long time.

A full report will be posted later this afternoon.

The Race build up and Race through ITV was close to being spoiled due to the dreaded overuse of the ‘H’ word, which I will not repeat again for fear of not ever watching F1 again.

Vettel is something else though and has shown signs of this sort of form, from day 1.

Vettel’s win made me very happy – he was complete master of those conditions (except for one chicane-cut which wasn’t significant in view of everyone else’s chicane-cutting sprees).

Great race! I am very happy that nothing wrong happened!
Lewis did a fantastic race, and Heikki proved that there is no number 2 at McLaren: There is only one race driver and 2 test drivers, but one is spanish and as such he is punished ;-)
Vettel was amazing, what can he do in a Ferrari or a McLaren??? I wonder… Bourdais very disappointed (and disappointing!) F1 really is another world, Bourdais was great in ChampCar but that is another word. Kimi, as it is now usual just wake-up before the end of the race, and maybe Felipe was over-cautious.
All drivers behaved like the gentlemen they should be, and there was action. This to me is the proof that fighting and cheating are 2 different things.
Monza was a much better race than Spa (and Spa was great) the end of the championship is going to be very very tough.
      Great for the fans!

I agree. I can only hope Red Bull and Renault sort their stuff out for next year and give the chap a stonking car to drive.

All drivers behaved like the gentlemen they should be, and there was action.

All the drivers? I thought Lewis was a bit pushy at times. Ultimately fair and racing well until the end, but a bit pushy.

the end of the championship is going to be very very tough.

2008 has been a vintage year, hasn’t it!? After everything that happened in 2007, Formula One needed this. Let’s hope it goes down to the wire in Brazil.

      This is racing!

Oh I agree. It was a brilliant race.

      I said “there was action

But you also said all drivers behaved like gentlemen. That was the bit I was questioning. Still, it did make for a thrilling race. Let’s hope the remaining four races can be just as exciting.
