What Would You Do With Grand Prix Fridays?

Posted on September 30th, 2008 by Oliver White

Autosport have recently reported that a potential shake-up of the way a race weekend is structured is being discussed. The newly-formed Formula One Team’s Association have been looking at a lot of aspects relating to Formula One, and as usual when these kind of discussions happen, the age-old Friday’s aren’t particularly interesting line comes out. Martin Whitmarsh appears to have been the most vocal on this, but his idea is just plain silly. Continue Reading…

Are There Changes On The Way For Race Stewards?

Posted on September 30th, 2008 by Oliver White

It has been suggested that Max Mosley would like to have more stewards present at each race, and the FIA president has apparently been considering overhauling the stewarding process for some time. This news comes in light of some inconsistent rulings in recent events, which in turn have sparked a fair amount of anger among some of the sport’s fans. However, Mosley is adamant this is not a retaliation to these recent controversies, and instead is something he has been thinking about for some time. Continue Reading…

Singapore 2008: Pit Lane Tumbles & Wurz’s Temporary Role

Posted on September 29th, 2008 by Oliver White

During the Singapore Grand Prix, a number of teams made a mess of their pitstops and we saw a few mechanics fall to the ground as the cars sped away before they should have done. Most notable among the incidents was Felipe Massa, who was given the green light even though the fuel-rigger hadn’t released the hose from the car. In spectacular fashion, Massa kept his foot planted and ripped the hose from the rig, dragging it behind him and pulling the refueller to the floor in the process. Continue Reading…

Formula One’s very first night race went off without a hitch and the photographs that came out of the city over the course of the weekend were nothing short of stunning. To see the cars reflecting the bright lights that were illuminating the track was certainly quite special and to commemorate the moment, I’ve gathered a few select images from the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Toyota Lodge Protest Against STR, Stewards Throw It Out

Posted on September 28th, 2008 by Oliver White

Shortly after the Singapore Grand Prix, Toyota lodged a protest against rival team Scuderia Toro Rosso as they felt Sebastian Vettel was unsafely released from his pitstop in to the path of Timo Glock. Despite Glock finishing ahead of Vettel in the race - so any punishment to the recent race winner won’t effect Glock’s result - it would have enabled a larger gap between the two teams in the constructors battle. Singapore 2008: Fernando Alonso Wins As Others Fall Apart

Posted on September 28th, 2008 by Oliver White

Formula One’s very first night race has been a success, with the Marina Bay circuit giving the fans a superb spectacle under floodlights. Although there are still some minor issues to sort before next year, I think it is safe to say that safety cars and great driving have produced a fantastic grand prix. With Fernando Alonso winning his first race in a year and beating the opposition with an interesting strategy, the championship has been turned around for the top two teams and their drivers. Another Pitlane Disaster For Ferrari

Posted on September 28th, 2008 by Oliver White

It wasn’t all that long ago that Ferrari had a two disastrous pitstops, one for each driver. And it appears that the Scuderia have made another mistake, giving Felipe Massa the green light to go while the fuel hose was still attached. As Massa dropped the clutch team members were thrown around and the hose was ripped from the machine and dragged down the pitlane, dangling from the Ferrari. Continue Reading…
