  • Championship Standings After British Grand Prix

The 2008 British Grand Prix has really shaken the championships up, with the top three drivers all sharing the same amount of points, and the constructors title closing back up with McLaren gaining on BMW and Ferrari earning little from the Silverstone event. Further down the constructors table the fight between Toyota and Red Bull Racing is tight and Honda have brought themselves into the Williams/Renault battle. The only team yet to score is Force India, and therefore driver’s are not on the tables yet.

    2008 Drivers Title

    1. Lewis Hamilton 48pts
    2. Felipe Massa 48pts
    3. Kimi Raikkonen 48pts
    4. Robert Kubica 46pts
    5. Nick Heidfeld 36pts
    6. Heikki Kovalainen 24pts
    7. Jarno Trulli 20pts
    8. Mark Webber 18pts
    9. Fernando Alonso 13pts
    10. Rubens Barrichello 11pts
    11. Nico Rosberg 8pts
    12. Kazuki Nakajima 8pts
    13. David Coulthard 6pts
    14. Timo Glock 5pts
    15. Sebastian Vettel 5pts
    16. Jenson Button 3pts
    17. Sebastien Bourdais 2pts
    18. Nelson Piquet Jr. 2pts

    2008 Constructors Title

    1. Ferrari 96pts
    2. BMW 82pts
    3. McLaren 72pts
    4. Toyota 25pts
    5. Red Bull Racing 24pts
    6. Williams 16pts
    7. Renault 15pts
    8. Honda 14pts
    9. Scuderia Toro Rosso 7pts

Robert Kubica is still in with a very good chance, the Polish driver only being two points behind the leaders. Nick Heidfeld is also well within contention, the German resting twelve behind the leaders. Heikki Kovalainen now has 24 points, exactly half of the leaders, but with the wins being shared among the top three, Heikki would do well to start getting consistent second and third places. Silverstone marked the mid-way point for 2008, and 48 points isn’t a great deal in comparison to previous championships.

Jarno Trulli and Mark Webber are right behind Kovalainen and Rubens Barrichello received a healthy dose of points this afternoon. I’m not expecting Barrichello to stay so close though, his result was down to adverse weather conditions and right calls made during the race. Both Williams drivers are on eight points each – somewhat surprising when you consider that Nico Rosberg is the golden child of Williams and Nakajima is the rookie who ran over his mechanic in his first race last year.

Er… strictly speaking the classification is
1 Lewis Hamilton AND Felipe Massa (same points, same places)
3 Kimi Raikkonen (2 wins only)
As a matter of fact there is absolutely no reason to put Lewis on top of the chart and it is absolutely fallacious to give number 2 to Felipe.
I am sure you will change that… if not the order at least the number 2 for Massa.
thanks ! and “forza Ferrari!” ;-)

Arghh Deep apologies I forgot that 10th place in France… 7.2 says all places not only the one with points…
I am very disappointed indeed… madly holding to this equality ;-)

I love it. Silverstone has tightened the standings right up and where they should be for a great final half of the season. It couldn’t have worked out better.
