Yeah thankfully I did manage to get not only my money back but also some compensation due to the distance travelled etc – no doubt that came from Silverstone’s coffers and not Bernie’s pocket though!!

Determined not to be outdone again, I headed off for Silverstone in 2000 hoping for a repeat performance only to end up having to listen to the race on the radio in the car.

Did you get a refund?

I remember that weekend as well, a total disaster. I sometimes wonder what went through Bernie’s mind when he switched the race to so early in the year – the weather in July is hit and miss at the best of times, let alone April!

I remember these years well – I attended Silverstone in 1998, when unfortunately he didn’t win and then we decided to skip 1999 when he triumphed!

Determined not to be outdone again, I headed off for Silverstone in 2000 hoping for a repeat performance only to end up having to listen to the race on the radio in the car. That was the year they switched it to Easter weekend and the weather was attrocious, leaving the carparks a muddy mess and a tailback of cars miles long up the surrounding motorways.

The real kick in the teeth was that not only did DC win again, but by the time of the race, it was glorious sunshine and not a hint of fog or rain around!
