The forty-nineth photograph to feature in BlogF1’s caption contest. You know the drill, think of something funny and witty to say and leave it as a comment below. Here’s a strange image from the German Grand Prix weekend. The driver being captured is Nelson Piquet Jr, who would go on to take his first career podium later in the day. Continue Reading…

The Formula One team bosses met at Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters yesterday to discuss the future of the sport and it’s immediate concern regarding the Concorde Agreement - a document that outlines the commercial and financial rewards from competing in Formula One. Along with representatives from each of the ten teams, Bernie Ecclestone and CVC managing partner Donald McKenzie were also present. One result from the talks is the creation of a new association. Toyota have now discovered what caused Timo Glock’s heavy accident at the German Grand Prix last weekend. The German driver was just coming onto the main straight when his TF108 veered quite violently over the right towards the pitwall. His car took substantial damage as it hit the wall backwards and then skated down the track and onto the other side before coming to a rest. Glock was uninjured, but went to hospital for a precautionary check-up. Toyota now know what caused the incident. Continue Reading…

FIA president Max Mosley has won his privacy case against British newspaper the News Of The World. The verdict came earlier today after Mosley took the paper to court following the publication of photos and a video extracts of Mosley involved in an orgy at a London apartment back in March. After a key witness failed to testify and evidence of Nazi overtones not found, Mosley has been awarded £60,000 and the newspaper will have to pay the costs, expected to around £1m. Continue Reading…

The forty-eighth photograph to feature in BlogF1’s caption contest. You know the drill, think of something funny and witty to say and leave it as a comment below. It’s been a couple of weeks since the last Caption Contest post, so what better way to get back into blogging than with #48. Here’s a classic image of Formula One’s seventies playboy James Hunt. Last week I essentially closed BlogF1 and posted a note to the top of all pages on the site. The message is still there as I type this, but for future reference, it basically says that I am on hiatus until August. I appreciate however, that no explanation or reason was given, and for those who regularly read BlogF1 but do not necessarily know me, that may have seemed strange and probably turned you off from re-visiting. So, with things getting better, I hope you will allow me to briefly explain. Continue Reading…

Over the years Formula One teams have pitched their cars against some of the world’s most formiddable, and on occasion, fiercesome machines. The most common battle is associated with the car manufacturers who supply engines to the motor sporting world, and these companies will sometimes race an F1 car against a fast road-going car and a small hatch-back or similar. Let’s take a look at some of the vehicles Formula One drivers have found themselves racing against. Continue Reading…

BlogF1 has been neglected over the weekend, but for good reason. On Friday I drove up to Goodwood in Chichester to visit the Festival of Speed - an annual celebration of fast cars and brave drivers. Among the exhibitions and hillclimbs there were many Formula One stars and cars from both last year and many more previous. Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button turned up on the Sunday, and a variety of test drivers were out in force for their respective teams. Continue Reading…

The second day of testing at Germany’s Hockenheim circuit test finished earlier and once again it was Lewis Hamilton who took the top spot ahead of Nico Rosberg’s Williams and championship contender Kimi Raikkonen. The Briton went 0.4s faster than the German, who was in turn 0.04s ahead of the Finn. McLaren reverted to the traditional engine cover for today although the squad did test a new front wing in the morning. Continue Reading…

Lewis Hamilton has lead the field today at the pre-German Grand test at Hockenheim. With his McLaren MP4-23, the British Grand Prix winner went fastest and sported the now common finned-engine cover, much like Renault, Force India, Red Bull and Scuderia Toro Rosso cars. The session was stopped for a while due to heavy rain showers, but after lunch Hamilton was able to eclipse his rival Kimi Raikkonen and go to the top of the tables. Continue Reading…
