Good Point Milos . That leads to another comparision with most famous rookie to have debuted in F1. Of his 6 wins to date only two have been in normal race conditions ( USGP and Hungary) other four ( Canada,Fuji,Australia, Monaco) have been races of attritions. Still press and British Fans can’t seem to stop their Adulation for LH.

On the same measure, given the fact that SV is equipped with Car that ends up qualifying him at lower end of grid and hence the results that he is getting in normal races. The fact that the boy has capability to survive carnage around him in difficult races is a testimony to his ability. Given enough time in McLaren Simulator in preparatory years and Car time in State of Art MP4-22-23 Vettel would have proved his mettle no doubt about it

He seems to be good driver for difficult races …

Japan – attacking podium (we can debate about the cause of that crash with Webber but the fact is, he had very good race there while it lasted).

China – wet (dump) and windy race – points finish

Monaco – wet race – 5th place

He is yet to show us something great in “normal” race conditions …

This season I don’t really have much to go on. If Vettel can get a decent qualifying in and then finish a few races in a row, maybe I’ll know better. Going on what I have, he’s ok. Give him time, a full season, maybe a better Toro Rosso and then the Red Bull and let’s see what he’s got.

I am no longer convinced that he is even above average. Boudais is just starting F1, but really has had the upper hand, especially with respect to car setup. In the dry, its been a struggle all the way for Vettel. Lucky for him, Berger likes to inflate the boy. That may be because he and Franz still lose the occasional sleep over Scott Speed.
