Felipe Massa has taken pole position for tomorrow’s Malaysian Grand Prix at the humid Sepang circuit. The Brazilian has been looking pretty handy around the track all weekend and finally brushed off advances from team mate Kimi Raikkonen with a stunning final lap that saw him clear both McLaren’s as well. The Woking-based team are not enjoying this circuit as much as Albert Park, but Heikki Kovalainen lines up third with Lewis Hamilton in fourth. Continue Reading…

Nick Heidfeld has had his final fast lap compromised by other drivers on the track during the third phase of qualifying for tomorrow’s Malaysian Grand Prix. As the rest of the field had set their hot laps earlier in the session, Nick Heidfeld started his final run just as the others went into fuel-save mode. The result meant Heidfeld was forced to dangerously weave around the other competitors who remained on the racing line. Continue Reading…

Red Bull Racing have been given the green light to continue participating in this weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix. The news follows a strange incident involving David Coulthard’s car which caused the stewards concern. During the first Free Practice session the Scot ran wide and slid over a kerb. As Coulthard controlled the car and brought it back onto the circuit it appears as though he suffers a catastrophic suspension failure. This follows the damage he sustained after being knocked at the back of the car by Felipe Massa at Albert Park last weekend. Continue Reading…

Following David Coulthard’s incident in Free Practice One earlier today, the Malaysian Grand Prix stewards have demanded a technical report from Red Bull Racing to be submitted to the FIA. The incident Coulthard suffered should have been relatively minor, but damage caused to the track rod by the Scot running over the kerbs appears to be more substantial than normal. Combined with the damaged caused to the front of David’s car at the Australian Grand Prix, the stewards are concerned there maybe something not quite right on the Red Bull. Continue Reading…

Just as one race ends another begins, this time at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia. The first session was dominated by Brazil’s Felipe Massa, who managed to end up a second clear of Ferrari team mate Kimi Raikkonen. The pair will be looking to improve from last weekend’s dismal Australian Grand Prix which saw both drivers retire after a slew of mistakes. Heikki Kovalainen ran well in the first session and slotted into third, although he dropped to seventh after lunch. Lewis Hamilton in the sister MP4-23 ran well in practice one and finished fifth, improving to first in the second session. Buoyed from his win in Australia, the Briton will be looking to repeat his success at Sepang on Sunday. Continue Reading…

Following the news of the BBC winning the rights to air Formula One from next season onwards, and reading Sidepodcast’s tweet, I’ve decided to let you guys have your say by way of a vote. Below is the voting form so you can vote in who you think will be in the commentary box in 2009. As it stands, unless you know how to delete cookies, you can only make one vote. Therefore, let’s assume that the BBC will retain Martin Brundle because he’s so wonderfully good at his job. But who will join him…? Continue Reading…

Enjoying his retirement from competitive driving in Formula One, seven times champion Michael Schumacher apparently viewed the Australian Grand Prix at his Swiss home. Like the rest of us Europeans, he was probably tucked up on the sofa but giddy with excitement as the 2008 season began. But this post isn’t about how Schumacher may or may not view the races, it is about his recent remarks concerning the safety car rules. Continue Reading…

After twelve years of covering Formula One, ITV has lost the battle to continue broadcasting the sport. Instead, from 2009 onwards the BBC will incorporate the show into BBC Sports and will have rights to mobile, radio and Internet broadcasting as well as the television rights. The deal is for five years but it is currently unknown if Martin Brundle, James Allen, Louise Goodman and Ted Kravitz will make the move as well. Continue Reading…
