The current safety car rules do add a small lottery into the mix, penalising drivers who have done nothing to deserve it and helping others.

However, the old safety car rules didnt always offer predictable results: cars stacking in pit boxes? That was more than able to ruin a driver's race, so its not as if the rules have suddenly created a problem that previously wasnt there.

Personally, I liked watching the chaos in the pits as 18-19 cars all decided to arrive at once, and I *loved* the smartypants drivers doing a hare & tortoise act to try to avoid stacking (knowing that they cannot be overtaken) so I'd like to see this pitlane closed nonsense axed.

Wow, Michael Schumacher has been talking a lot of sense lately!

The current safety car rules are way too harsh on drivers who are unlucky enough to need to pit at that time and surely the FIA must look into this again.

If it was possible to inform all the drivers at the same time that the SC had been deployed, then they could be forced to limit their speed to 60mph or whatever so even if they do have to pit then they aren't absolutely flying round and liable to cause an accident.

Possibly incredibly hard to police though.
