I wouldn't trust anyone associated with Ferrari to become the next president of the FIA. I think Sir Jackie Stewart would be great in this role. Anyway, Mosely would probably get one of his pals to succeed him. I think that's how it works, the network of the old boys club.

isn't Nick Fry rumored to be getting along well with the FIA lately? Surely nowhere near the class of the people mentioned above, i think he or Tony Purnell might be the realistic candidates as i can very well see Max wanting to have someone "installed" as a president who would listen to him. And i believe anyone mentioned all through this topic, would do a competent job than Max!!

I've done a fair amount of thinking on this one and am coming to the conclusion that my first suggestion, originally made in jest, is actually the best solution. Alex Wurz for president!

The problem with all of the potential candidates listed by you is the suspicion of bias, even when unintended. I wouldn't trust Todt as far as I could throw him, the British candidates (even Sir Jackie) are bound to be suspect on the continent and Piccinini would be just as dubious in British eyes.

In contrast, everyone loves Alex. He's young enough to last a good few years (necessary to correct the damage done by Max), not British, as straight as they come, has sound ethics and is a lot more intelligent than he looks. Above everything else, he would have no confidence in doing the job without help and so he will listen, surely the most important aspect of the president's position and the one that Max has been getting spectacularly wrong in the last few years.

Alex for FIA president!

Hey Oliver,
When I saw the title of the blog post in my RSS feed, the first person that came to mind was Jean Todt. Although, in about 20 years from now, I really wouldn't mind Michael Schumacher being the President. No guesses as to which team he'll favour.. :) But yeah, this much I know, Ron Dennis will NEVER be the FIA president. :D Good post, by the way.. AS USUAL!! Happy New Year too..

I don't think Stewart would rule himself out, but as you said Duncan, he is getting on a bit. 68 years I think, one more than Mosley.

How about Jackie Stewart? He is pretty old himself, but I doubt many people would disagree that he would do an excellent job in the role, at least for one term. Has he ruled himself out?

When I started writing this post I was thinking that Brawn would be ideal, but as I thought more about it my mind changed. He is very good at what he does, but I don't think he's ready for a desk job yet. Hill on the other hand started to replace Brawn as I typed. I too think he wouldn't do a bad job at the FIA. But as you say Ali, Piccinini is probably the favourite given his current position and status.

The FIA have changed the maximum terms? That's interesting, and also a good thing - unlimited power rarely did anyone's ability to govern any good. I suspect that some FIA bureaucrat will succeed Max (Mauro Piccinini, who is currently deputy FIA president, strikes me as the most likely), simply because the method of selecting the FIA President is strongly weighted towards people who are already in the FIA. Pity, as I think Hill, and maybe even Brawn, could do a good job as FIA President.
