  • Kimi Goes Fastest On Final Day Of Spa Testing

Kimi Raikkonen - 2007 Spa Francorchamps TestKimi Raikkonen has gone fastest on the final day of the Spa test, making it 2-1 to Ferrari after Felipe Massa went quickest yesterday, and Lewis Hamilton for McLaren the day previous. The Finnish driver lapped the circuit 69 times and posted a time 0.2s ahead of second placed man Robert Kubica. Fernando Alonso ended up in third after 75 laps, although 0.6s down on Raikkonen and only 0.05s faster than the Red Bull of Mark Webber.

Giancarlo Fisichella managed to put his Renault in fifth, ahead of Alex Wurz in the Williams. Jarno Trulli went seventh, just 0.1s shy of Wurz’s time, and ahead of ChampCar champion Sebastien Bourdais, who returned for his second day of testing for the Scuderia Toro Rosso squad.

We went out for a few runs on the damp track in the morning but the racing line soon became inconsistent. It was dry in the corners but wet on the straights so that meant it was difficult to carry out much useful comparative work. The track was dry in the afternoon so we were able to run through our programme. Jarno Trulli.

Takuma Sato and Rubens Barrichello rounded off the top ten, while Christian Klien propped up the timing sheets in the Spyker – the Austrian being allowed to test for the team by Honda as regular driver Christijan Albers has been sacked.

Obviously it was a new team, new car and a new seat and it took some time to get used to it, but there is a good bunch of people here and I felt at home straight away. We did a lot of mileage, but obviously today’s focus was to get used to the car and how the engine and gearbox works. I think it all went well, there is potential in the car and I enjoyed the day testing with Spyker. Christian Klien.
