Okay, so the title is a little presumptuous, but today BMW allowed their test driver and US Grand Prix point scorer Sebastian Vettel to join Scuderia Toro Rosso for the remainder of the season. Following an altercation between Scott Speed and Franz Tost at the recent European Grand Prix, Speed said he would not drive for the team again if Tost and Gerhard Berger remained as managers. Although the Californian racer did a couple of days testing for the squad, he has now left the team and Vettel will be wearing Red Bull overalls in Hungary. Continue Reading…

The FIA have released a provisional calendar for the 2008 Formula One season. It was announced a while back that Valencia had made it into the campaign with their street circuit, and although Abu Dhabi would have to wait until 2009, Singapore was announced as a possible venue for a night race. America was recently ditched after negotiations broke down, and France were in and out in a relatively short timeframe. Below is what has been proposed thus far, but as usual, there may be changes made between now and next March. Continue Reading…

As expected on Sunday last weekend, there was a lot of news flying around the Formula One paddock this week. Scott Speed talked about his altercation with team boss Franz Tost, Spyker have announced who will drive their second car for the remainder of the season, and McLaren received the verdict from the FIA regarding their involvement in Stepney-gate. Californian racer Scott Speed has opened his mouth again, and that can only mean one thing: He’s annoyed at somebody or something and wants to have a moan about it. This happens probably once or twice a year and the Scuderia Toro Rosso driver has developed a bit of spoiled child reputation among the paddock fraternity. But is his recent sound off actually nonsense, or is Scott right to be paranoid about his position within the team? Continue Reading…

While waiting to hear from Spyker regarding his possible future drive with the Dutch team, Williams test driver Narain Karthikeyan has kept himself busy away from the race track this week. Self-titled “the fastest Indian in the world”, Narain visited his home city - Coimbatore - recently to help promote the opening of a Subway store in the area. Narain spent time discussing the brand with the store’s franchisee and even enjoyed a sub while talking with the crowds and fans who turned up for the event. Continue Reading…

Following what was a chaotic race that saw emotions run high, the initial reactions to various incidents will no doubt deepen previous wounds and cause a few choice words be shared in the paddock. There was the altercation between Ralf Schumacher and Nick Heidfeld at the final corner, and of course that overtaking move by Alonso to take the lead from Massa in the dying laps of the race. Continue Reading…

The 2007 European Grand Prix had it all. Good weather, bad weather, overtaking, crashes, aquaplaning, clever strategies, bad decisions. Somehow, the German circuit separated the men from the boys, and while some drivers performed well to keep everything together, others drove superbly. We saw debutant Markus Winkelhock lead the race in his Spyker, a great challenge from Lewis Hamilton and one belter of an overtaking move that saw Fernando Alonso pass Felipe Massa to lead the final four laps. Despite concern yesterday surrounding the current championship leaders ability to race today in the Grand Prix of Europe, Lewis Hamilton has now been released by the hospital and FIA doctors have agreed the Briton may compete this afternoon. Lewis is expected to start from tenth on the grid. FIA Medical Delegate Dr. Gary Hartstein and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Klaus Zerbian have assessed Lewis at the Nurburgring circuit, as they do any other driver who has endured an accident, and declared him fit to race. Lewis Hamilton has been airlifted from the Nurburging medical centre in Germany to a local hospital for further checks following his pretty heavy accident earlier today in qualifying. Lewis pounded a tyre barrier at a reported 250kph after a problem occurred with his front right wheel. Anthony Hamilton, Lewis’s father, followed his son to nearby Koblenz Bundeswehr Hospital where further tests and CT scans are being done to ascertain whether Lewis will be able to race tomorrow.
