As Fernando Alonso cruised back to the pitlane in his broken McLaren, the final shoot out for pole position for tomorrows French Grand Prix centred around the final three title contenders left. While Lewis Hamilton drove well to regain pace from Friday’s less-than-good practice sessions, the young rookie had to admit defeat to Ferrari’’s Brazilian driver and winner, Felipe Massa, who takes his fourth pole of the season. Ferrari led the pace at Magny Cours this morning as the practice session for the French Grand Prix got underway. Kimi Raikkonen went fastest going 0.05s faster than his team mate Felipe Massa, who in turn was over 0.5s faster than the McLaren of Fernando Alonso. The current championship leader Lewis Hamilton languished in sixth place, significantly down on what the British driver is used to. However, practice times are just that and many teams take the opportunity to try out different fuel levels and strategies for the actual race on Sunday. Seeing the improvements in the Ferrari’s is significant though, and the recent testing has faired well for the Italian team. Continue Reading…

As the final French Grand Prix gets under away at the Magny Cours circuit in Nevers, many of Formula One’s elite have spent the last week or so in the headlines. Unfortunately, much of the news passed me by as I spent a lot of time at work, so I apologise for the lack of recent updates. But everything is returning to normal, and below are some of the highlights of what has been happening in F1. Continue Reading…

The final day at Goodwood Festival of Speed, and boy did it rain. With continuous showers all day, the Goodwood estate was pretty muddy, but like those attending Glastonbury, spirits were not dampened by the poor weather and all cars continued to run up the hill, albeit with the addition of an umbrella for some. I’ll post a longer writeup in the coming week, but for now here are the photos from Sunday. Continue Reading…

Day two of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Again, I’m tired and worn out, but here are few photos gathered from today. Some Formula One test drivers (and Ralf Schumacher) were present to drive their machines up the hill, and Colin McRae drove the all-conquering Subaru Impreza WRC.
Also at Goodwood were Christine and “me” from Sidepodcast, and Keith from F1Fanatic. Luckily I managed to see these bloggers and podcasters for five minutes, and have been roped into doing something tomorrow that involves a video camera. I’m assuming that it is just for videoing cars… Continue Reading…

I have just returned from Goodwood after a long day of looking and listening to some of the worlds greatest cars going up and down the famous hill. I’ll be completely honest, I’m totally knackered. I was hoping to write up a post on each day, but I really don’t have the energy to do it any justice. Instead, I throw up a few photos of the day and do a larger write up on either Sunday or Monday evening. I will be attending Saturday and Sunday as well, so if there are any more decent pictures taken (maybe Lewis Hamilton et al on Sunday) I’ll post those as and when. Continue Reading…

Driving his Ferrari F2007, Felipe Massa has completed the third day of the Silverstone test in first place with the fastest lap of 1m20.805s, 0.4s faster than second placed driver Nico Rosberg. Massa’s day didn’t pass without incident though, causing three red flags during his afternoon, comforting Fernando Alonso’s single flag-inducing incident. Speaking of the reigning World Champion, Alonso spent a good part of the morning tucked up in his garage while the McLaren mechanics worked on his MP4-22. When the Spaniard did energe, he could only manage the third fastest lap of the day, beating Nelson Piquet Jr. by 0.1s. Continue Reading…

The second day of testing at Silverstone saw Jarno Trulli put the Toyota on top, mimicking Ralf Schumacher’s pace yesterday and turning heads up and down the pitlane. The Italian driver went 0.1s faster than Kimi Raikkonen in the Ferrari, and 0.5s faster than third placed driver Alexander Wurz. Raikkonen maintained the lead for most of the morning, but Trulli managed to hook a decent lap together towards the end. Continue Reading…

Silverstone testing started today with a surprise leader following on from the US Grand Prix. Ralf Schumacher posted the quickest lap, just over 0.1s faster than McLaren test driver Pedro De La Rosa. Following on from poor performances in North America, the German driver has been giving another race to improve himself in, but as you can imagine, the rumour mill is in full swing. Toyota are likely to be hoping for Ralf to see out his contract to the end of 2007, but if things don’t start to get better, pressures from Toyota management could see the experienced driver receiving his P45 sooner rather than later.
