  • Michael Schumacher Still Claims All The Attention

Michael Schumacher - 2007 Spanish Grand PrixYou may have heard that a certain Michael Schumacher will be in the Spanish paddock this weekend. In fact, he is already there, over-seeing the progress of Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen. While so much has been written about the man already this week, I thought I would just take a look at the few images that are coming out of Spain at the moment. And while I have never been a big fan of Schumacher (both of them), I must say that I don’t recall seeing Michael so well, healthy, relaxed and young all at the same time. Clearly the break has done the seven-times World Champion the power of good. Tanned, chilled and absorbing everything around him, Michael looks good standing next to a racing car. Standing next to being the key words in that phrase.

And at a recent event involving Ferrari’s fuel partner Shell:

I wonder how Lewis feels having lost all the media attention…!?

Good to see Michael Schumacher being his usual self this weekend. Clearly he is enjoying retirement and being around Ferrari. With Massa’s pole, it would be fair to suggest that the feeling is entirely mutual (no surprise there, though!)

Just out of curiosity (and I should point out that I’ve not read anything about Michael and this weekend) but what is he doing there? I mean, I know he’s still employed by Ferrari, but what is he actually doing? Aside from swanning around, looking good and smiling at all the cameras, I can’t make out what his role is. Any guesses/ideas?

I guess he is a puppet.

However Raikkonen had really bad luck in the Spanish GP.

@Robert: Hehe. A puppet who still wants a job, I guess.

UK commentators couldn’t work out what Schumacher is doing either, asking the rhetorical question while footage of him in the garage was broadcast.

I thought he was just there to enjoy himself, the way many ex-F1 drivers pop into the paddock occasionally to catch up with their old mates. It’s just that because this is Michael Schumacher, a lot of people have tried to read things into Michael’s appearance that may not have been there. This probably encouraged Michael not to stray far from the Ferrari garage all weekend, which has only fuelled the rumours…
