  • Ferrari Have A Go At Dogems

Ferrari Factory at Maranello, ItalyWell, not quite, but Ferrari today have signed a contract with ALDAR – a property development company – to design and build a theme park on the site of 2009’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The park will sit within the Yas Island project where the Grand Prix circuit is currently being built, and it is expected to open its doors to the public some time in 2008. According to some sources, construction has already begun on the site of the park, although I imagine this is more to do with the whole island project at the moment.

It seems a lot of teams are attempting to entice more fans to F1-related events, and BMW even transported a ‘theme park’ with them to some of last years races. Part of it appears to be a case of keeping up with the Jones’, and of course, the other part of it is to make even more money.

The park, which will cover 250,000 square metres, will be themed around Ferrari and the marques excellent brand reknowned throughout the world. Ferrari Land, as I have just dubbed it, will encompass a race track, rides and attractions, virtual simulations, educational areas and a retelling of the Ferrari history. Also to be built on the expensive plot of real estate will be hotels, retail, residential and hospitality buildings, which will all be “embracing the design ethics of the Ferrari brand” apparently.

Mubadala Development company’s purchase of Ferrari shares earlier this year allowed ALDAR an opportunity to forge a relationship with one of the world’s leading brands. We have commenced our design program, so that we can launch the development to the world very early next year. The development will then be constructed on a fast track program, targeting a public opening in 2008. Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh – ALDAR Chairman.

The site will be an important attraction for fans and car lovers worldwide, whilst the structures for sporting and driving activities will have a special appeal for all Ferrari enthusiasts and drivers. Jean Todt – Ferrari General Manager.

    I’m only going if they’ve got a helta-skelta!
