Sepang Ends With Heikki Fastest

Heikki Kovalainen - 2007 Australian Grand PrixThe final test at Sepang ended today with Renault’s Heikki Kovalainen taking the top spot beating Felipe Massa’s Ferrari and Anthony Davidson’s Super Aguri. With the extra day added to the schedule following yesterdays poor weather, Renault concentrated on simulated qualifying runs and managed to finish ahead of Ferrari by 0.05s. No French Grand Prix In 2008?

This news has since been confirmed as true by the FFSA.

Pitpass have reported that the French Grand Prix may have been dropped from the 2008 Formula One calendar, following reports made in L’Equipe. Apparently, the FIA have stated that the event cannot take place in current conditions and logistical problems are preventing Mangy Cours from hosting the race. It was recently mooted that Britain and France could share a slot on the racing calendar, which is something Magny Cours seemed keen on. However, BRDC President (the organisation that still owns Silverstone) Damon Hill said that this solution would be a last resort. Continue Reading…

Hamilton Goes Top In Wet Sepang

Lewis Hamilton - Testing In SepangLewis Hamilton made his presence known in Sepang earlier today by setting the fastest lap time in the post-Australia test in Malaysia. On a dry track the British driver managed a time 0.2s faster than his nearest rival on the day, Mark Webber. However, the rain soon moved in which saw lap times gradually fall off the McLaren pace setter. Ralf Schumacher continued yesterdays promising improvements by placing his Toyota in third, just narrowly edging out Vitantonio Liuzzi un the Toro Rosso. Continue Reading…

Raikkonen Reigns In Sepang

Kimi Raikkonen - Testing In SepangFerrari driver Kimi Raikkonen has led the second day of testing at Malaysia’s Sepang circuit, edging out Alex Wurz in his resurgent Williams. Although the difference between the two drivers was close to half a second, the fact that BMW and McLaren have slipped out of the top four is unusual. David Coulthard enjoyed a return to the top half of the timing sheet with a lap time just 0.01s down on Wurz, and Ralf Schumacher popped his Toyota into fourth just a further 0.04s down on Coulthard. Sepang Testing Gets Underway

Alex Wurz - Testing In SepangSepang hosted the first day of the in-season testing on Tuesday, and it was BMW’s Robert Kubica who led the other nine drivers on the timing sheets, going just over a tenth quicker than Kimi Raikkonen. Lapping the Malaysian circuit 92 times, Kubica focused on some new aero parts as well as working on electronic componants and ensuring the F1.07 can withstand the scorching temperatures. Nurburgring Honours Schumacher

The Nurburgring circuit in Germany is to honour Michael Schumacher by naming one of their corners after the multiple World Champion. After winning on the track five times and winning a record seven titles, Nurburgring is naming the fast left and right switchback that follows the Dunlop hairpin the ‘Schumacher S’. Michael is often said as being one of the many people who have helped transform the circuit over the years, offering opinions from a drivers viewpoint on how the track should be shaped.

Symonds Defends Kovalainen

Heikki Kovalainen - 2007 Australian Grand PrixRenault’s technical director, Pat Symonds, has defended Heikki Kovalainen after his poor performace at last weekends Australian Grand Prix led team boss Flavio Briatore to slam his Finnish driver. Kovalainen had a poor debut for the squad, seemingly going backwards from the moment he set foot in Melbourne. The race didn’t go well for the Finnish pilot, and a bout of spins and offs led Briatore to speak his mind to the media. Branding Kovalainen’s performance as “rubbish” and offering no defence, Symonds has come forward to offer some explanation for the drivers poor result and cushion Briatore’s blows. Continue Reading…

Raikkonen Dominates, Hamilton Excites, Davidson Hospitalised

Kimi Raikkonen Wins In Australia2007 got off to a flying start in the early hours of this GMT morning. At approximately 3am our time 22 cars left the grid and headed down down to turn one at Melbourne’s makeshift Albert Park circuit. And 58 laps later, it was Kimi Raikkonen in the Ferrari who was leading , followed by 2006 World Champion Fernando Alonso and McLaren new-boy Lewis Hamilton. It was a race that saw many errors from drivers, a fair few retirements, overtaking a-plenty and a confirmation that this years title will be dragged out between Maranello and Woking.
