World title hopeful Kimi Raikkonen has driven the 2006 Ferrari at a private test in Italy today. Kimi completed the day lapping the Vallelunga circuit 39 times, while team mate Felipe Massa toured around in the new F2007, completing 74 laps.
Raikkonen set a fastest time of 1m15.226s and concentrated on acclimatising himself to the Bridgestone tyres. Massa set a fastest lap time of 1m14.493s, although the times cannot be compared due to the differences in the cars. Testing is expected to continue tomorrow despite the weather not being ideal. Here are some quick sound bites that have come about this week. In a busy seven days for Formula One, Ferrari, BMW and McLaren have launched their cars and ran them on circuits, with most teams concentrating in warmer climes in Spain - Jerez and Valencia. Renault also ran their new R27 with both drivers completing laps in the interim-liveried car. Although they suffered some electrical problems, both drivers managed to complete a fair few laps, and were bouyant about the cars potential. Continue Reading…

McLaren were out in force at yesterdays test session, given the new MP4-22 some runs at the Valencia circuit. Fernando Alonso took to the circuit proudly displaying the number one on the car, and sporting not only a new haircut, but also a new helmet design. With the off-season dragging on like never before, and with still another 60 days to go before the Australian Grand Prix, I thought I would try my hand at doing a few short interviews with some fellow Formula One bloggers.
While I’m no interviewer, the responses so far have been fantastic, and this just highlights the superb content that is out there.
First up - and taking on the role as guinea pig for me - is F1 fanatic Keith Collantine. Keith runs the aptly named F1Fanatic blog, and judging by his occupation and website, F1Fanatic is no understatement. Read on to find out why Keith thinks the scoring system needs to change, his views on Fernando Alonso and McLaren, and what we should expect from Keith’s network of sites, F1, A1GP and GPM Fanatic.

Formula One fan Chris - from Daily F1 Blog - has launched a weekly podcast dedicated to the sport of Formula One. Aptly named Sidepodcast, Chris has released two episodes so far and has recapped the 2006 season, describing all the great moments with informative facts, trivia, detail and humour. The podcast also discusses some of the technical aspects of Formula One, such things as the ‘tuned mass damper system’ and flexi-wings’, both of which came to the fore last season. Continue Reading…

I am aware of a recent slowdown in the site performance - thanks to everyone who emailed me. As far as I can ascertain, this is due to Performancing.com changing servers, and this has possibly screwed up the ad placement I normally display at the top of the right sidebar. Coupled with record numbers of visitors to the site (thanks, by-the-way) it is no wonder things are running a little slow at present. But in an effort to keep all you guys and gals happy, and to keep the site running, I have disabled the ad code as a temporary measure. As and when everything settles down at Performancing.com I will enable the code again. But readers come first and foremost and are always my main concern - hence this notice. Continue Reading…

Felipe Massa got his hands on the Ferrari F2007 for the first time today, just 24 hours after it was launched to the world at the teams headquarters in Maranello in Italy. Massa took to the circuit and completed 39 laps in is new motor, with both Kimi Raikkonen and ex-Ferrari driver Michael Schumacher watching on with anticipation. Anticipation for Kimi as he will get his chance to test the car at Mugello on the 23rd January, and also anticipation for Schumacher as he is also expected to test the car in order to better understand and help Raikkonen settle into the team. Schumacher’s knowledge of the Scuderia’s cars will also enable the German multiple world champion to give feedback to team to improve the car before it hits the streets of Albert Park in March. Below are some first shots of the car in action, courtesy of Ferrari. Continue Reading…
