The World Motorsport Council has granted the establishment of a new commission – the Formula One Manufacturers’ Advisory Commission. The idea being that all Formula One Manufacturer’s can represent their interests on matters concerning Formula One to the governors via this group. Currently, BMW, Daimler-Chrysler, Honda, Renault Ferrari and Toyota are allowed to join, and the FIA will – as always – be represented by Max Mosley, Charlie Whiting, Peter Wright and Tony Purnell.
Ultimately what does this all mean? More bureaucracy…
…And possibly a move to a more manufacturer-based championship, or simply recognising the interests of these groups – depending on your viewpoint.
Also in the news today, Sepang will hold its first official test as the teams take a scheduled (and utterly ridiculous) three week break in late March after the season opener in Melbourne. The circuit, sited in Malaysia, will hold the three day test one week prior to its race, with the test starting on 27th March. All eleven teams are expected to attend as this saves them having to fly everything home, only to then fly everything back in early April for the Grand Prix.
The test sessions are further recognition of our efforts to make the circuit in Sepang as a hub of motorsports in Asia. Azhar Ghazali – Sepang Circuit Press Officer.
