I noticed a recent poll on ITVs F1 website which asks a question that usually gets asked at this time of year: Can Honda challenge the big guns in 2007 and win regularly? To be honest, the question is usually answered already by Honda themselves, as the hyping-up of the Japanese teams potential success in the pre-season has become a tradition of Winter Testing. This year though, Honda have remained a little more conservative, and it is this lack of hyping that has caught the interest of the media and the fans alike. Continue Reading…

It seems too far into the future to be discussing the 2009 championship, but in reality it is only two years away, and while much may change in that time, the make up of the season is already beginning to take shape, particulrly the rules. Formula One’s governing body - the FIA - have quietly released the 2009 Rules & Regulations on their website. While many changes have been widely rumoured and reported, this is the first time they have been published for the public to read. The general jist of what will be happening come 2009 is detailed below. Continue Reading…

Spyker Formula One team has just announced their lineup, completing the grid for the 2007 season and ending months of speculation. The young German Adrian Sutil will partner Dutch driver Christijan Albers in the recently purchased team, and thus Tiago Monteiro will not be competing next year.
Monteiro was expected to fill the vacant seat after the Dutch consortium that bought the former Midland team announced the re-signing of Albers. But some strong Friday sessions at last years’ races and a Japanese Formula Three championship impressed the team enough and Sutil was signed.

As the poll votes near the 100 mark, I thought I would take a look at the results thus far and see what peoples expectations are for the upcoming 2007 Australian Grand Prix. All the teams (except Spyker) were out in force in late November and early December, testing various parts and acclimatising themselves to Bridgestone rubber. Many teams also took this opportunity to try new drivers and give their new racers some valuable experience. Toro Rosso let ChampCar champion Sebastian Bourdais have a spin in their motor, and BMW modified one of their cars to allow Alex Zanardi to drive around the Jerez circuit. Mika Hakkinen also made a brief comeback at the wheel of a McLaren, but what about the drivers who will be competing come March 18th?

As you can probably tell by skimming around the F1-related websites, news is slow-coming today. But one particular post caught my eye and after reading it, deserves a mention to others. The post was made today - the anniversary of Fernando Alonso’s shock announcement that he will drive a McLaren in 2007. This announcement left just about all Formula One employees and fans dumbfounded, especially has he had signed the contract without his manager and current employers knowledge. Needless to say, no one was more shocked than Flavio Briatore. Continue Reading…

I thought that it was now time (having been around for nine or so months) that you guys - my valued and much loved readers - should get a little insight into just who I am. After all, I realise that it is nice to put a face to a name and gain some background information on the author of these scribbles.
My name is Oliver White, but feel free to call me Ollie, I’m in my mid-twenties and this little space in the corner of the internet has been around since late February 2006. I started the site after I gained some confidence in blogging at my (somewhat neglected) personal site, and thought I would spill my ramblings on Formula One to the world - hence BlogF1. Australian Paul Stoddart – who ran the Minardi team for a few years - has officially entered the American ChampCar series under the name Minardi Team USA. This rumour of Stoddart entering motorsport again has been running for a while now, but today it was announced that Paul has purchased a controlling interest in the CTE Racing HVM team, based in Indianapolis.
It is good to see Stoddart back in motorsport and I’m sure his effort stateside will prove more successful than his venture in Formula One, which came to an end in 2005 after he sold the team to Red Bull. Stoddart was hoping to gain the twelfth spot for the 2008 season, but Dave Richards’ Prodrive company won the battle, prompting the Australian to look elsewhere for the opportunity to race. On a sad day for Formula One, Lewis Hamilton topped is 2007 team mate and world champion Fernando Alonso. It is the first time both drivers have run on track in the same cars, and Hamilton beat Alonso by 0.25s, sandwiching Heikki Kovalainen in second place. Giancarlo Fisichella finished the final test of the year in fourth, just ahead of James Rossiter and Robert Kubica. Continue Reading…
