Alessandro Zanardi may make a return to Formula One by the end of the year, it has reported in Sportautomoto. Zanardi, who lost both his legs in 2001 in a ChampCar accident on the Lausitzring in Germany, hasn’t driven a F1 car since his days at Williams in 1999. Previous to that, he drove for Jordan, Minardi and Lotus in the early ‘90s, and currently drives BMWs in the World Touring Car Championship. The Italian has also driven single seaters, making a remarkable comeback on the circuit that almost cost him his life only two years after the accident.
Zanardi is expected to drive a BMW Sauber at a private test for the team later this year.

Schumacher-gate is continuing as various people give their views on what happened. The stewards who made the decision to send Michael Schumacher to the boonies at last weekends Monaco Grand Prix have spoken about the difficulties they had when reviewing the evidence, but said they were “proud” at the decision. Luca de Montezemolo has voiced his disgust at the penalty imposed on Schumacher saying it was “unjust”. Even Max Mosley put his four-penneth in saying that the whole issue has not damaged Formula One in the slightest, saying “This no more hurts F1 than a foul in a penalty area in football”.

Red Bull Racing are hinting at retaining the services of David Coulthard for 2007 and beyond. Prior to the Monaco Grand Prix, Coulthard had been voicing his pleasure at driving for the team, and it now seems that Christian Horner is responding with lots of praise for the Scot.

His quality within the team is recognised.
Does this [Monaco podium] result change our opinion of him? No, because we already knew what we had before Monaco. We aren’t going to make any decisions about drivers until the summer.
But as I say, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

So it looks like DC will be driving an Adrian Newey Red Bull after all – it is going to be very interesting…

Jacques Villeneuve is whining again. This time it is about his lack of options for 2007. Maybe JV will be forced to take another sabatical for a year? It seems that teams don’t want to employ him, and this has been puzzling the 35 year old Canadian.

Being quicker than my team mate now, having won the world championship, raced for pole positions, seems to be a negative to get a contract.
It’s a strange situation.

Villeneuve went on to deny that he was asking for too much money, and BMW have still to announce their 2007 driver lineup. JV still has a chance…
